Job description

JourneyTeam's Data & AI practice is growing, and we're looking for a hungry, humble, and curious Data Architect to join our world-class team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role: you'll be in front of clients-solutioning, architecting, and implementing modern Microsoft data solutions yourself, not just advising from the sidelines. It's a great opportunity for someone with 8+ years of experience who's ready to take the next step. If you're passionate about solving real business problems with data and want to be part of a collaborative, values-driven team, we'd love to hear from you.
About JourneyTeam
At JourneyTeam, people are at the center of everything we do. Our purpose as a company is to help others effectively use technology to create a positive, lasting impact on the world. With 30 years of technology experience, we are 100% focused on delivering Microsoft business applications and technologies that empower organizations to reach new heights of business success. We deeply understand the transformative value of Microsoft solutions and are dedicated to helping our customers unlock their full potential. Our experienced team specializes in driving success across Dynamics 365, Microsoft 365, AI and Copilot, Azure, and modern data solutions-all leveraging Microsoft's comprehensive security platform.
What truly sets us apart is how we show up every day-for our customers and for each other. We believe that great outcomes come from great people who are aligned in how they work, collaborate, and take ownership. We succeed by consistently demonstrating our core values:
  • A Caring Mindset
  • Exceptional Performance
  • Being OneTeam
  • Making & Keeping Commitments
  • Taking Ownership
  • Effective Communication
  • A Growth Mindset

The Opportunity
As a Data Architect, you will be a thought leader and trusted advisor to our clients, driving innovation, technical excellence, and measurable business outcomes. This is a customer-facing role that combines architecture with hands-on delivery: you will sit directly with clients to scope and solution their needs, own the design of complex, enterprise-scale data solutions within the Microsoft ecosystem, and roll up your sleeves to build and implement those solutions alongside the team-all while mentoring team members and shaping JourneyTeam's Data & AI practice. You'll collaborate with data engineers, developers, and architects to design and implement modern data solutions using Microsoft technologies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead solution strategy, design, and architecture for large-scale, modern data platforms using Microsoft Azure and Fabric.
  • Engage directly with executive stakeholders and technical teams to understand business priorities and translate them into scalable, future-ready data architecture.
  • Define data architecture standards, patterns, and best practices (e.g., medallion, lakehouse, warehouse/lake integration, governance, lifecycle management).
  • Oversee and guide implementation of data engineering solutions, ensuring quality, scalability, and adherence to enterprise architecture principles.
  • Build and configure data pipelines, models, and analytics solutions-acting as both architect and hands-on contributor.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, and consultants to develop technical excellence and leadership capabilities across the practice.
  • Influence the Data & AI Solutions Practice roadmap, service offerings, and accelerators.
  • Stay ahead of Microsoft's evolving Data & AI platform (Azure, Fabric, Databricks, Synapse, SQL, Power BI) and advocate for adoption of emerging capabilities with clients.
  • Actively represent JourneyTeam in the Microsoft partner ecosystem, including at conferences, webinars, and community events.

Qualifications
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, or related fields, with at least 5 years architecting enterprise-scale solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Proven ability to design, optimize, and implement architectures that handle high-volume, high-velocity, and complex data (batch and real-time).
  • Deep expertise with Azure data services including: Data Factory, ADLS, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Azure SQL Database, Logic Apps, Event Hubs, Stream Analytics, and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Mastery of SQL, dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas), and modern data architecture patterns (lakehouse, medallion, data mesh, data governance).
  • Hands-on experience leading data engineering teams building ingestion pipelines, orchestration workflows, and large-scale integrations.
  • Strong coding proficiency in SQL and Python, with the ability to guide and review complex codebases.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML integration, analytics adoption, and Power BI enterprise deployments.
  • Demonstrated success in client-facing leadership roles-consulting, solutioning, and delivering enterprise data transformation programs.
  • Exceptional communication and executive presence; able to translate technical complexity into business value.

Certification Requirements
Applicants for the Solution Architect role must have the following certifications or a plan to attain them within the first year of employment:
  • DP-900: Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals
  • Certification: DP-700 Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Associate
  • Certification: DP-600 Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate

Preferred Skills (not required):
  • Experience with real-time or near-real-time analytics pipelines using tools like Azure Stream Analytics, Event Hubs, or Kafka.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, including building and orchestrating Spark-based data pipelines and notebooks for large-scale data processing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview.
  • Experience with project delivery methodologies (Agile/Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, hybrid).
  • Knowledge of change management practices to support Data & AI adoption.
  • Experience delivering projects involving Power BI, AI/ML adoption, or advanced analytics.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 (Project Service Automation or Project Operations).
  • Experience with Azure DevOps.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this role is $140,000 - $200,000 + performance-based bonus program. Eligibility and payout are tied to individual contributions, team performance, and company success.
This is the established pay range for the Principal Solution Architect role at JourneyTeam on the Data & AI Solutions Practice.
Benefits:
JourneyTeam offers a wide range of excellent benefits, including comprehensive healthcare and dental coverage, as well as a 401(k) with an approximate 4% employer match-with immediate vesting. We offer flexible time off and provide paid maternity and paternity leave.
Additional perks include a monthly phone stipend (or the option to join our corporate phone plan) and a monthly gym membership reimbursement of up to $200.
JourneyTeam is an Equal Opportunity Employer. This position is not open to C2C, H1B sponsorships, or third-party agencies.
