Sleep Technician/Respiratory Therapist

Description

Provides comprehensive sleep testing and analysis and associated interventions, including performing titrations. Also, may work days to analyze the recordings and prepare reports. Provides supervision of a sleep trainee. The staffing of the Company is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross-trained in other areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.

*This position is being offered for full time, part time, and per diem (PRN) statuses.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

  • Assures patient/personal safety by maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

  • Upon patients' arrival, verify identification, review medical orders, collect documents and obtain consent for the study.

  • Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors and other employees.

  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.

  • Explain the procedure and orient the patient for either in Center or out of Center sleep testing.

  • Follows material cleaning protocol; including, cleaning your own masks immediately following study/procedure.

  • Adhering to principles of Universal Precautions.

  • Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement; and removes defective equipment. Assists with maintenance of supplies and equipment.

  • Ensures proper instrumentation for each procedure.

  • Perform visual checks at the start of each scheduled shift to assure you have all required equipment and materials needed to start your shift. Following quality assurance visual assessment, sign off on your Visual Check Form.

  • Documents concisely, precisely and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy.

  • Participates in quality assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care.

  • Stage sleep for your studies.

  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.

  • Perform routine Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.

  • Respond to sleep patients' procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information.

  • Follow procedural protocols (such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data.

  • Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments.

  • Follow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.).

  • Follow "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g. repeat the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on completing questionnaires, checking for completeness, etc.).

  • Responsible for scanning, uploading and printing your own paperwork in a timely and organized manner.

  • Participates in conference calls, staff meetings, functions and trainings, and continuing education.

  • Compliance with continuing education programs, including timely completion of mandatory training in Company training program(s) (e.g. Sharepoint) as scheduled.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Maintain initial and annual required competencies.

  • Abides by and supports established Center policies and procedures.

  • Extensive travel and driving required.

  • Regular, physical attendance on a predictable basis is essential to the performance of this job.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and Center related business.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorder Specialist (RRT-SDS)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current CPR or BLS certification.
