Position Overview:
The Colorado Avalanche are looking to hire a full-time season-long analytics intern to work within the teamโ€™s Hockey Operations Department. This person will have a particular focus on coaching staff-related statistical and video analysis, working with both the NHL and AHL staffs.
Location:
Denver/Loveland, Colorado
Responsibilities:
  • Produce detailed pre-game reports on AHL opposition teams and goalies
  • Effectively communicate statistical findings and trends to the AHL coaching staff
  • Blend statistics and video to assist the coaching staff at the AHL level
  • Attend AHL home games and assist the coaching staff in-game as needed
  • Support our departmentโ€™s work with the NHL coaching staff as requested
  • Undertake significant statistical projects in the interest of maximizing in-game strategy and decision-making
Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of advanced tactical hockey concepts and strategy, modern hockey analytics, and NHL/AHL hockey players and teams
  • Passion for the minutia of hockey in-game strategy and decision-making, as well as the implementation of analytics therein
  • Proficiency in the R or Python programming language
  • Familiarity with writing queries using SQL
  • Significant experience working with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and work ethic
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Time spent working in a hockey front office or with a coaching staff at some level
  • Experience working with hockey video
  • Time spent working with the SportLogiq interface and other NHL/AHL data sources
Compensation:
  • $19.29/hour, non-exempt
