What is a data analyst startup?

A Data Analyst in a startup is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to help drive business decisions. Unlike in larger companies, startup data analysts often wear multiple hats, working with raw, unstructured data, building dashboards, and providing strategic insights. They collaborate closely with product, marketing, and engineering teams to optimize processes and improve business performance. The role requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in SQL, Python, or R, and the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment. Since startups have fewer resources, data analysts must be proactive, resourceful, and comfortable with ambiguity.

What are some challenges a data analyst might face when working in a startup environment?

Data Analysts in startups often encounter rapidly shifting priorities and limited resources, which require them to adapt quickly and independently manage their work. You may find yourself setting up new data processes from scratch, dealing with incomplete datasets, or balancing multiple projects at once. Collaboration is frequent, as you'll typically work closely with founders, product managers, engineers, and marketers to deliver actionable insights. This environment fosters valuable learning opportunities and skill development, but it also demands flexibility, resourcefulness, and a willingness to take on diverse tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the data analyst startup position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Analyst at a startup, you need strong quantitative skills, proficiency in data manipulation and statistical analysis, and often a degree in a related field like mathematics, statistics, or computer science. Familiarity with tools like SQL, Python, R, Excel, and data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI is highly beneficial, as is experience with cloud-based data storage. Adaptability, problem-solving, and excellent communication skills set standout candidates apart in this fast-paced environment. These capabilities are crucial because startup Data Analysts often wear multiple hats, working cross-functionally to extract actionable insights that directly influence business decisions.

Position: Data Solutions Engineer

Summary / Objective

Klickly is seeking a Data Solutions Engineer to serve as the bridge between our customers, commercial teams, and Data, Product, and Engineering organizations. You will work directly with prospective and existing enterprise customers to translate their business objectives into effective data insight solutions.

A core part of this role is understanding how Klickly's proprietary data works and using that knowledge to design solutions that balance brand requirements, data availability, quality, feasibility, and expected performance. You will help scope custom data feeds and evaluations, establish appropriate expectations with customers, partner with internal teams to ensure feeds are built to the agreed objectives, and use SQL and data analysis to validate results and diagnose performance gaps.

This role is ideal for someone who combines strong data intuition and analytical problem-solving with excellent communication and sound business judgment. You should be comfortable working hands-on with data, explaining tradeoffs to customers, and collaborating with technical teams to improve outcomes, without needing to be the engineer who builds the underlying data pipelines.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with commercial teams to lead data and technical discovery with prospective and existing brands
  • Translate customers' marketing objectives into clear data requirements, including fields, populations, identifiers, selection criteria, expected coverage, delivery specifications, and success criteria
  • Develop a deep understanding of Klickly's proprietary data asset and how different fields, populations, identifiers, filters, and selection criteria affect coverage, matching, and overall feed performance
  • Evaluate customer requests against Klickly's available data capabilities and recommend solutions that balance customer objectives, data quality, feasibility, and product guidelines
  • Scope custom data feeds and technical evaluations, including field selection, schema, delivery method, cadence, filtering, transformations, and validation criteria
  • Set appropriate expectations with customers around data availability, coverage, matching performance, limitations, and tradeoffs before evaluations and production engagements begin
  • Coordinate custom data samples and trials, working with internal Data and Engineering teams to ensure outputs accurately reflect agreed customer requirements
  • Use SQL and data analysis to profile and validate samples and production feeds, including field completeness, population characteristics, coverage, matching performance, and data quality
  • Investigate cases where a data feed or evaluation is not achieving expected results, identify the drivers of performance gaps, and work with Data and Engineering teams to improve outcomes where possible
  • Review internally generated feeds to ensure they meet agreed specifications and customer objectives before and after delivery
  • Clearly communicate data findings, performance, limitations, and recommended approaches to audiences ranging from engineers and data teams to marketers and business executives
  • Guide customers through data evaluation, testing, launch, and post-launch validation
  • Troubleshoot data delivery, mapping, schema, and data quality issues and coordinate resolution with internal teams when needed
  • Monitor production data feeds for delivery health, data quality, and adherence to agreed specifications and performance expectations
  • Create and maintain data specifications, implementation documentation, troubleshooting resources, and internal enablement materials
  • Work with Data, Product, and Engineering teams to communicate customer requirements, identify recurring data challenges, and recommend improvements to Klickly's data capabilities and processes
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with brands
  • Manage multiple customer evaluations and production data engagements simultaneously while maintaining clear communication, documentation, and follow-through

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in data solutions engineering, solutions consulting, analytics, data analysis, analytics engineering, technical consulting, technical account management, solutions engineering, or another relevant customer-facing data role
  • Strong SQL skills and the ability to independently investigate, profile, and validate complex datasets
  • Strong understanding of data concepts such as joins, identifiers, matching, filtering, schemas, field completeness, population coverage, and data quality
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate why actual data results differ from expected outcomes and identify practical ways to improve performance
  • Experience working with data products, customer-facing datasets, recurring data feeds, analytics platforms, or other complex data environments
  • Ability to translate customer business objectives into clear specifications, requirements, and measurable success criteria
  • Strong judgment and the ability to balance customer requests with technical feasibility, data capabilities, and product considerations
  • Working knowledge of common data delivery methods and formats such as S3/GCS, SFTP, APIs, CSV, and JSON
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including the ability to lead conversations with US-based customer stakeholders and explain complex data concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Strong customer instincts and the ability to build credibility with both technical and executive stakeholders
  • A methodical and curious approach to troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-moving remote environment
  • A proactive, collaborative, and highly organized working style with strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with data products, analytics, data partnerships, advertising technology, identity systems, or other data-intensive businesses
  • Familiarity with data warehouses, ETL/ELT processes, batch data pipelines, or analytics platforms
  • Familiarity with Python or another scripting language for data analysis or lightweight automation
  • Experience supporting enterprise customers
  • Experience working with privacy-sensitive data, data governance, identity, analytics, or distributed commerce

Other details:

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
  • Potential for equity in the company
  • Remote work
  • Access to Klickly’s company-wide healthcare program
  • Unlimited PTO and company holidays
  • The opportunity to work with skilled, collaborative, and thoughtful teammates
  • Dynamic and challenging work at the intersection of AI, data, and commerce
