Pay Grade:  830  (New Hire Pay Schedule)
Work Days:  218
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in dance and drill team performance, choreography, and physical fitness designed to fulfill their potential for artistic, physical, emotional, and social growth. Enable students to develop performance skills, teamwork, discipline, and leadership abilities to function successfully in competitive and community settings.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:






  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in dance performance and choreography

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of various dance styles including jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, pom, and kick technique
  • Knowledge of drill team traditions, performance standards, and competition formats
  • Ability to choreograph routines appropriate for student age and skill level
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction in a performing arts context
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of UIL regulations and competitive event requirements

Experience:

  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
  • Prior experience directing or performing with a dance or drill team preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and technology that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned
  • Conduct assessments of student skill levels and use results to guide instruction and placement
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify instruction as needed for students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s)
  • Integrate technologies in the teaching/learning process

Student Growth and Development

  • Assist students in developing performance skills, stage presence, and healthy physical habits
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal evaluation
  • Direct and organize all dance and drill team performances, competitions, and community appearances
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school
  • Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, respect, discipline, and excellence within the program

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Develop and maintain a rehearsal environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical and emotional development of students
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and rehearsal space and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and IEP
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, uniforms, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in the selection of appropriate instructional materials, music, and costumes
  • Manage program budget, inventory of equipment and uniforms, and fundraising activities in accordance with district policies

Communication

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents, principal, and other colleagues
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, booster organizations, and community members
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
  • Keep the principal fully informed with respect to conditions and needs of the program and of new techniques and materials being used

Professional Growth and Development

  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and work sessions as required by the principal
  • Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from supervisor
  • Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor
  • Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor
  • Exhibit professional judgment and responsibility at all times
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and other documents as required
  • Promote professional improvement through reading educational journals, attending workshops and clinics, enrolling in college courses, participating in staff development, and membership in professional organizations such as TODA (Texas Organization of Dance Educators) and DTAI (Drill Team Association International)

Policy Implementation

  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, district philosophy, board policies, and present subject matter according to established guidelines
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and UIL regulations and policies for dance and drill team programs
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
