Job description

Description
The Bethlehem Energy Center is a state-of-the-art, combined-cycle power plant fueled primarily by natural gas. The plant has a 3 x 3 x 1 combined-cycle configuration: three GE 7FA combustion turbine-generators (CTGs) exhausting at 1,140F to three Nooter/Eriksen heat-recovery steam generators (HRSGs) whose outputs are combined to feed one GE D11 steam turbine-generator.
The Production Technician IC&E is responsible for the detailed training of Technicians of lower grade; to perform work involved in Maintenance of the gas and steam turbine generating units, steam generators and to perform or direct the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant calibrations of various types of complex auxiliary equipment associated with boilers, turbines, generators, water treatment facilities and power distribution. Investigate troubleshoot and repair equipment and controls, both electrical and mechanical; perform routine operational tests, and inspection; execute safe and effective LOTO's (Work Clearance) on all types of mechanical and electrical equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform technical and specialized work of a skilled nature in connection with the repair and maintenance of GE MKVI, DCS communication systems, PLC Logic, Rosemount instruments, CEMS (Continuous Emission Monitoring System), computers, annunciator systems, and boiler chemistry monitoring equipment. Perform Thermography and NERC Battery inspections and maintenance.
  • Must have completed a course in electricity including magnetism and AC/DC theory, advanced chemistry, engineering principles of mechanics, control print reading, or maintenance and repair of electronic micro processing.
  • Actively participate in job briefs and safety discussions. Maintain a strong focus on hazard identification and elimination. Perform work in accordance with the policies, practices, standards, and rules of the company.
  • Maintain safe working conditions, use of proper tools, equipment, and protective clothing & devices. Keep work areas clean; check and maintain assigned housekeeping areas.
  • Take a collaborative approach to problem solving. Work with energy production, maintenance personnel, and others to resolve immediate equipment problems and ensure equipment is repaired safely and efficiently.
  • Actively seek ways to improve productivity and equipment reliability. Investigate abnormal operating conditions, equipment failures, equipment design issues, operating and maintenance problems (PM/PDM).
  • Review, update, revise drawings and other documentation and/or procedures as needed. Assist with technical and safety training of others.
  • Assist or perform, as directed, analytical work in connection with equipment testing, chemical analyses, engineering studies and calculations related to the operating efficiency of power plant equipment and assist engineers and others performing technical services.
  • Work fair share of holdover, scheduled, and call-out overtime which at times may include weekend or night shift coverage for urgent jobs or startup support.
  • Perform similar or less skilled tasks and other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Associates degree from Accredited or Technical College
  • 5+ years Power Generation experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and skill necessary to perform the installation, inspection, repair, adjustment, calibration and servicing of instrumentation, controls, and electrical equipment.
  • Strong math skills and understanding of fundamental chemistry principles.
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from simple prints, sketches, and specifications. Analytical skills and the ability to develop solutions to problems.
