Position Overview:  

The Cyber Security Engineer protects critical enterprise systems by monitoring threats, assessing vulnerabilities, and driving swift, effective responses. This role supports secure system design, troubleshooting, and compliance for BWXT and Nuclear Fuel Services. Ideal candidates excel at diagnosing complex issues, staying calm under pressure, and partnering with stakeholders on both immediate security needs and long-term improvements.

This position is onsite in Erwin, TN due to the hands-on nature of the work, the need for close collaboration with operational teams, and the requirement to support secure systems and infrastructure that cannot be accessed remotely. Occasional after-hours support may be required, and ongoing learning is essential to stay ahead of emerging threats.

As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will:

 

  • Design, configure, deploy, and maintain core cyber security technologies, including
    • SIEM platforms
    • Vulnerability management tools
    • EDR solutions
    • Data loss prevention systems
    • Intrusion detection/prevention systems
  • Evaluate threat intelligence by reviewing advisories, exploit reports, and vendor notifications from trusted government, academic, and industry sources, then delivering clear, actionable recommendations to internal teams.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments using industry‑standard tools to uncover configuration gaps, security risks, missing patches, outdated software, and identify remediation needs.
  • Develop meaningful custom dashboards to track the organization’s security posture and generate reports to support Cyber Security metrics for both executives and operational teams.
  • Participate as a member of the Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) by:
    • serving as a technical consultant during security incident investigations
    • guiding first responders during security events and conducting advanced response actions for escalated incidents, and
    • performing digital forensic evidence collection, preservation, analysis, and malware examination as required.
  • Directing first responders and executing advanced response actions, and
  • Conducting forensic evidence collection, analysis, and malware examination.
  • Perform risk assessments and threat modeling to strengthen the security of new technologies and business initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with IT Operations, IT Applications, and other technical partners to rapidly troubleshoot and resolve complex system and security issues.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s Degree in IT, Cyber Security, or a related field.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
  • Two (2) or more years of relevant IT or Cyber Security experience.
  • Technical experience in the following areas:
    • Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems,
    • Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy Objects,
    • SIEM administration,
    • Intrusion detection and prevention system administration,
    • Endpoint detection and response tool administration, and
    • Advanced cyber security toolkits for malware analysis and digital forensics.
  • Working knowledge of cyber security best practices and system protection requirements (e.g., NIST frameworks, DISA STIGs, etc.).
  • Familiarity with open-source and commercial tools used for detection, prevention and analysis of security threats.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six (6) or more years of relevant experience.
  • One or more advanced certifications: CCNA, Security+, GCIH, CYSA+, CISSP.

Pay: $65,000 - $103,000

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $65,000 and $103,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
