Job description

Revolutional delivers advanced technology solutions and mission support to federal agencies across civilian, health, and national security environments. We apply modern capabilities, including AI/ML, cloud, cybersecurity, and IT modernization to solve complex challenges, enable faster and more secure operations, and drive measurable mission outcomes.

We are redefining how federal technology gets built and delivered by operating with a product mindset, prioritizing speed, ownership, and execution over bureaucracy.

Title: Cybersecurity Engineer III

Location: Washington, DC or Chandler, AZ

Terms: Full-time

Clearance: Secret eligibility

Travel: 0-20%

Position Description

As a Cybersecurity Engineer III at Revolutional, you are a senior technical leader with 10+ years of cybersecurity engineering depth and the strategic range to match. You design and integrate security architectures across complex federal enterprise environments — spanning Zero Trust, cloud, mobile, DevSecOps, AI/ML, and Post-Quantum Cryptography — and you lead teams through the full engineering lifecycle from CONOPS development to production deployment.

You operate at the intersection of architecture and execution. You produce strategic technology roadmaps, conduct proof-of-concept evaluations, identify security gaps, and translate operational requirements into implementable security controls. You are a force multiplier for the program — technically authoritative, methodical, and capable of leading engineering teams under real-world operational constraints.

Responsibilities
  • Lead cybersecurity engineering design and integration for enterprise systems and networks, including development of system security CONOPS, baseline security requirements, and protection needs documentation
  • Architect and implement Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles across network, identity, application, and data layers of the enterprise environment
  • Develop and maintain strategic cybersecurity technology roadmaps aligned with mission requirements; conduct market research and technical evaluations of emerging cybersecurity tools and technologies
  • Perform security architecture reviews, identify gaps, and develop security risk management plans with actionable remediation strategies
  • Engineer and tune Network Detection and Response (NDR) platforms; apply network modeling and behavior analysis technologies to improve detection and response capabilities
  • Provide security engineering support for DevSecOps pipeline integration, ensuring security controls are embedded throughout development, testing, and deployment workflows
  • Design and implement secure authentication architectures including Single Sign-On (SSO) and multi-factor authentication solutions for enterprise environments
  • Lead Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) engineering efforts including certificate lifecycle management, cryptographic asset discovery, PQC-enabled protocol design (TLS, IPsec, DNSsec), and transition roadmap development
  • Integrate cybersecurity principles with AI and Generative AI systems; assess AI/ML security risks and engineer appropriate controls for AI-enabled capabilities
  • Engineer and configure cloud security controls across IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS environments; ensure cloud deployments meet federal security requirements
  • Apply mobile security engineering controls including Mobile Threat Detection (MTD), Mobile Device Management (MDM), and Mobile Application Management (MAM)
  • Operate SIEM, SOAR, and Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) technologies to support detection engineering and security operations integration
  • Conduct vulnerability scanning across operating systems, web applications, and databases; translate findings into actionable remediation guidance
  • Lead and mentor cybersecurity engineering teams; manage technical workstreams and drive delivery against program milestones
What You Bring (Requirements)Baseline Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field; OR 10 years of cybersecurity engineering work experience in lieu of degree
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience in cybersecurity engineering and/or cybersecurity project management
  • 2 or more years of leadership experience managing cybersecurity engineering teams
  • Secret eligibility required
Technical & Domain Capabilities
  • Experience developing and integrating cybersecurity designs for systems and networks, including system security context, CONOPS, and baseline security requirements documentation
  • Hands-on experience implementing Zero Trust Architecture principles in enterprise environments
  • Experience developing strategic technology roadmaps and conducting market research and proof-of-concept evaluations for cybersecurity tools
  • Experience with cloud security engineering across at least one CSP type: IaaS, SaaS, or PaaS
  • Experience or knowledge integrating cybersecurity with AI or Generative AI systems
  • Experience supporting DevSecOps pipeline security integration
  • Working experience or knowledge with NDR platforms, network modeling, and behavior analysis technologies
  • Experience with SIEM, SOAR, and CTI technologies
  • Experience with secure authentication and SSO engineering
  • Mobile security engineering experience or knowledge: MTD, MDM, and/or MAM security controls
  • Experience or knowledge of Post-Quantum Cryptography concepts, including one or more of: certificate lifecycle management, cryptographic asset discovery, PQC-enabled protocol design, quantum-ready encryption system development, or cryptographic inventorying
  • Understanding of core network protocols: TLS, X.509, BGP, DHCP, IPsec, DNSsec, and related standards
  • 2 or more years of experience with network packet capture tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, or nmap
  • Proficiency scripting and automating administrative functions using PowerShell and/or Python
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning tools for OS, web application, and database assessments
Core Strengths
  • Technically authoritative across a wide engineering domain — you make sound architectural decisions and your designs hold up under operational and compliance scrutiny
  • Strategic thinker who builds roadmaps that are executable, not aspirational — grounded in mission requirements and real-world constraints
  • Effective engineering leader who develops team capability, manages delivery, and holds quality standards without micromanaging
  • Translates complex technical architectures into clear documentation and stakeholder communications
Certifications

At least one of the following is required:

  • CISSP, CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP, CCSP, CCNA, GIAC (any), SSCP, or CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent as approved)
Nice to Have (Differentiators)
  • Multiple certifications from the required list, particularly CISSP-ISSEP (engineering-focused) or CCSP for cloud security depth
  • Hands-on PQC implementation experience including NIST PQC algorithm deployment (CRYSTALS-Kyber, CRYSTALS-Dilithium, SPHINCS+)
  • Experience engineering AI/ML security controls or red-teaming AI systems in a federal environment
  • Familiarity with CISA, NIST, or NSA Zero Trust maturity model frameworks and federal ZTA implementation guidance
  • Experience with industrial control system (ICS) or OT security engineering
  • Active Secret clearance
