CYBER SECURITY ASSISTANT
OPEN-COMPETITIVE EXAM #: 2800 (TRAINING & EXPERIENCE)

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT WAIVED
DUTIES:
This position is responsible for assisting in the organization, analysis and control of data access security administration activities to ensure the safekeeping and protection of computer data from illegal, intentional (security threats) or unauthorized disclosure, modification or destruction. Performs analysis of data security systems to keep the department informed of system utilization patterns. While the ability to exercise independent judgment and make independent decisions is required, general supervision is received from administrative personnel. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only)
  • Investigates incidences of data access violations and data corruption or loss and reports findings to department heads and managers.
  • Monitors and audits the information systems environment to isolate and identify occurrences of illegal or unauthorized access; prepares reports recommending corrective actions.
  • Investigates, evaluates and implements new security technologies;
  • Investigates and corrects security related problems to ensure data information system integrity.
  • Participates in the development of security procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER
Possession of an Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cyber Security or a related field one (1) year of experience in computer and network surveillance, collection and reporting or network/systems administration.
SUBSTITUTION:
Satisfactory completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cyber Security or a related field may be substituted for the one (1) year of experience in computer and network surveillance, collection and reporting or network/systems administration
NOTE:
Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm . You must pay the required evaluation fee."
SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION:
The examination will consist of a rated evaluation of training and experience.
