Job description

Position Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and day-to-day operation of the Portland facility, a specialized manufacturer of premium wine and beverage labels. This position ensures a safe, efficient, and customer-focused operation that consistently meets production, quality, delivery, and financial objectives.
The Operations Manager oversees all manufacturing activities, staffing, scheduling, employee relations, timekeeping administration, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role works closely with Customer Service, Sales, Quality, Finance, Human Resources, and Maintenance to ensure operational excellence and exceptional customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Operations Leadership
  • Direct and oversee all production activities, including printing, finishing, shipping, and related support functions.
  • Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining quality, efficiency, and customer delivery requirements.
  • Monitor and improve productivity, scrap, downtime, quality, and overall operational performance.
  • Develop and implement plans to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Participate in capacity planning and resource allocation to support future business growth.
  • Lead daily production meetings and communicate operational priorities to employees.

Financial & Business Management
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Monitor labor, material, and operational expenses.
  • Review operational reports and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Support management in achieving plant profitability goals.

Employee Leadership & Relations
  • Supervise, coach, develop, and motivate approximately 20 employees.
  • Conduct hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and employee development activities.
  • Address employee concerns promptly and professionally while fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • Partner with Human Resources regarding employee relations matters, corrective action, investigations, attendance concerns, leaves of absence, and policy interpretation.
  • Promote employee engagement, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Timekeeping & Workforce Administration
  • Review and approve employee timecards for accuracy and payroll processing.
  • Monitor attendance, overtime, meal and rest period compliance, and scheduling practices.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of attendance issues, schedule changes, and employee records.
  • Coordinate staffing levels to meet operational demands while controlling labor costs.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable wage and hour regulations.

Quality & Customer Satisfaction
  • Ensure all products meet customer specifications and CCL quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to reduce waste, improve consistency, and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in customer reviews, corrective actions, and process improvement initiatives as needed.

Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a safe workplace and ensure compliance with all OSHA, environmental, and company safety requirements.
  • Promote safety awareness and employee participation in safety programs.
  • Participate in incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, GMP requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience managing hourly manufacturing employees required.
  • Printing, label manufacturing, packaging, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in wine, beverage, or premium consumer packaging markets is a plus.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move throughout a manufacturing environment on a daily basis.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an environment with moving machinery, production equipment, and varying noise levels
