What is the difference between Customer Implementation Manager vs Customer Success Manager?

AspectCustomer Implementation ManagerCustomer Success Manager
Primary FocusImplementing products/services for new clientsEnsuring ongoing client satisfaction and retention
Work StagePre- and post-sales onboardingPost-implementation relationship management
Skills & CertificationsProject management, technical knowledge, certifications like PMPCommunication, relationship-building, customer service skills
Work EnvironmentProject-based, technical teams, client sites or remoteAccount management, client communication, cross-functional teams

While both roles focus on client success, the Customer Implementation Manager primarily handles onboarding and implementation processes, ensuring a smooth transition for new clients. The Customer Success Manager, on the other hand, maintains ongoing relationships to promote retention and growth. Understanding these differences helps organizations assign the right roles for client satisfaction at each stage.

How much do customer implementation managers make in the US?

Customer Implementation Managers in the US typically earn between $70,000 and $110,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and company size. Salaries may also include bonuses and benefits, and roles often require strong communication and project management skills.

What does a customer implementation manager do?

A customer implementation manager oversees the process of onboarding and integrating new clients with a company's products or services. They coordinate between sales, technical teams, and clients to ensure successful deployment, often managing project timelines, providing training, and addressing issues to ensure customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a customer implementation manager?

To excel as a Customer Implementation Manager, you need strong project management abilities, client relationship skills, and a background in business or IT, often supported by a bachelor's degree. Familiarity with CRM platforms, project management software (like Jira or Asana), and sometimes certifications such as PMP are typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help you effectively guide clients and coordinate cross-functional teams. These skills ensure smooth onboarding experiences, high customer satisfaction, and successful implementation of solutions.

How does a customer implementation manager typically collaborate with clients and internal teams during a new client onboarding project?

A Customer Implementation Manager acts as the main point of contact for clients during the onboarding process, guiding them from contract signing through to successful product or service adoption. This role requires close collaboration with both the client and internal teams such as project management, product development, and technical support. The manager coordinates project timelines, gathers client requirements, and ensures clear communication to address challenges swiftly. Regular meetings and progress updates are common, helping to set expectations and maintain alignment between all parties involved.

Job description

Who We Are

At KEV, we help school districts eliminate the school finance blind spot. Our platform gives district finance teams real-time visibility and traceability into every dollar collected at the school level; whether it's cash, check, or digital. From field trips to fundraisers, we help them manage every dollar with confidence. More than 27,000 schools across North America trust KEV to manage over $8 billion annually. By unifying payments, accounting, and reporting, KEV simplifies life for bookkeepers, builds trust with parents, and gives finance leaders the oversight their current systems cannot. It's how we help schools stay compliant, reduce risk, and focus on what matters most, student success.

Backed by Five Arrows, the PE arm of Rothschild & Co., KEV is investing more than ever to support K-12 in a world of tighter budgets, rising scrutiny, and fast-changing tech. We're headquartered in Toronto, with offices across North America.

If you're excited by the idea of building tech that protects schools, empowers finance teams, and improves education through better systems, KEV is the place for you.

This role is for an active vacancy.

About the Role

The Professional Services team is integral to KEV's success, driving customer satisfaction through collaboration and expertise. We partner across the organization to deliver exceptional service and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

We are looking to add a Project Manager, Implementation, to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the delivery of services related to customer implementations of KEV Group software, including School Cash Accounting (SCA), School Funds Online (SFO), and School Cash Online (SCO). You will work closely with various departments and contribute to the successful onboarding, training, and implementation of our software for customers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and has experience in project management and training.

This role is offered as a 12-month contract position, with the possibility of extension based on business needs and performance.

 How You'll Contribute
  • Lead customer implementations - ensuring high customer satisfaction throughout the process.
  • Build strong relationships with key customer stakeholders - influencing them on the adoption of implementation and software usage best practices.
  • Drive day-to-day project activities - through the application of sound project management principles and methodologies.
  • Provide project management services - reviewing project scope, specifying deliverables, estimating, and controlling project duration and effort.
  • Collaborate with other Professional Services team members and other teams - on the delivery of services related to software implementations.
  • Liaise with Customer Success Account Managers - to facilitate smooth transitions of customers as they progress from Implementation to Support.
  • Provide impactful training to customers - both at a district and school user level, enhancing software adoption.
Who You Are
  • 3+ years of project management experience in the delivery of SaaS professional services.
  • Experience onboarding and training customers in the SaaS space, ideally in the K-12 segment.
  • Knowledge of finance, bookkeeping, and accounting practices.
  • Strong preference for hands-on experience with KEV software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with a track record of exemplary customer outcomes.
  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines and using project management and customer success best practices.
  • Ability to multitask and deal with requests from multiple customers and departments.
  • Strong customer service skills, with exceptional interpersonal communication and ability to influence.
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Quick learner, adaptable, and able to "wear different hats" and adapt to changing customer expectations.
  • Very well organized with the ability to handle multiple concurrent activities.
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation - We believe in rewarding great work with fair, competitive pay.
  • Meaningful benefits- Because your well-being matters; both at work and at home.
  • Retirement Savings Support - We help you plan for your future with company-matched programs, including RRSP matching in Canada and 401(k) contributions in the U.S.
  • Professional development - We invest in your growth with ongoing learning, stretch opportunities, and continuing education, including KEV Academy for onboarding and skill-building, plus KEV University, our online platform offering a wide range of courses.
  • Hybrid model - 3 days in the office to collaborate and connect, with flexibility the rest of the week.
  • Flexible PTO - Take the time you need to recharge with close to 4 weeks of vacation and a company-wide holiday closure
  • Office perks - Enjoy a fully stocked snack bar and occasional catered lunches-because we know that great conversations (and ideas) often start around good food.

Salary Range - $65,000-85,000

Note: This range reflects expected compensation at the time of posting. Final offers may vary based on skills, experience, location, and internal equity. Total compensation may also include bonus and benefits.
