Job description

Riverfront location. Customer-facing kiosk. Weekends/Evenings required.

We are seeking an experienced, capable and reliable line cook to join the team at our kiosk at Rockwell on the River (3507 N. Rockwell, Chicago). This Soul & Smoke outlet in Avondale requires a skill set strong enough to carry out line prep, execute line orders, interact with customers, and maintain the dining room in this open, client-facing kitchen. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, detail-oriented, energetic cook with strong time management and communication skills.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Set up and stock stations daily with necessary food and supplies.
  • Prepare food items by cutting, chopping, mixing, smoking, grilling, sautéing, and other cooking methods according to specified recipes and standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness that complies with food sanitation requirements by properly handling food and ensuring correct storage.
  • Perform inventory checks and complete food storage logs as required.
  • Prep and send out dine-in and to-go orders in a fast-paced setting.
  • Communicate with Soul & Smoke management, customers, and coworkers in a proactive and professional manner.
  • Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude.
  • Wash and put away dishes.
  • There are also FOH duties in the role at this pop-up, taking some orders at POS, answering customer questions, running food, and maintaining the dining room.
Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to work evenings and weekends and be flexible when necessary.
  • 2 years of line/prep experience - some fine dining preferred.
  • Servsafe and Chicago food manager, Allergen, and Basset certifications required.
  • Reliable and timely.
  • Ability to multitask and keep organized.
  • Ability to walk/stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Pay/Benefits:
  • Job Type: Full-time preferred, part-time is possible.
  • Pay: Base of $17-20 per hour, plus pooled revenue share ($4-6 per hour additional per hour). Full time employees make over $10,000 in revenue share per year.
  • Benefits: Staff meals, dining discounts. Aflac plans and Illinois Secure Choice Roth IRA retirement savings plans available. Paid leave and sick leave. Health and dental available for full-time employees after 90 days.
