Position Summary

The Drafter – Custom Fabrication is responsible for creating detailed, production-ready drawings and documentation for custom foodservice equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This role requires an experienced drafter capable of working independently, making sound technical decisions, and supporting rapid concept-to-manufacturing execution. The position operates within a collaborative engineering team and plays a critical role in delivering accurate, high-quality outputs under aggressive timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Custom Drafting & Rapid Development

  • Create complex, detailed drawings for custom fabricated foodservice equipment.
  • Support full development cycle: Concept → Design → Review → Release → Manufacturing Support.
  • Execute fast-turn drawing releases with high accuracy and minimal revisions.
  • Interpret customer requirements, sketches, and layouts into manufacturable designs.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously in a high-mix, quick-turn environment.

Advanced Technical Execution

  • Develop complete drawing packages including assemblies, subassemblies, and detailed components.
  • Ensure proper tolerances, fits, and fabrication details are clearly defined.
  • Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Apply strong knowledge of sheet metal, welding, and fabrication processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve design/drawing issues with minimal supervision.

Collaborative Engineering Environment

  • Work closely with a team of engineers and drafters on complex and time-sensitive projects.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute technical input.
  • Support and guide less experienced team members when needed.
  • Coordinate with Product Development, Sales, and Operations to ensure alignment.

Manufacturing Support

· Ensure drawings are fully shop-floor ready with clear, complete instructions.

· Collaborate directly with fabrication teams (laser, forming, welding, assembly).

· Quickly respond to production questions and implement necessary revisions.

· Minimize rework through strong first-pass accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Extensive experience in drafting within a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Proven experience handling complex custom fabrication projects independently.
  • Experience in foodservice equipment or similar industries strongly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Strong expertise in sheet metal design and fabrication drawings.
  • Knowledge of welding methods (MIG/TIG) and forming processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Epicor preferred).
  • Ability to produce accurate, production-ready documentation under tight timelines.
