Centennial Academy is a conversion charter school in the heart of Atlanta that educates scholars from kindergarten through 8th grade. As a community school, Centennial Academy extends beyond its campus borders, creating strong partnerships with institutions of early and higher learning, industry, and social service that support an expansive curriculum.
Job Summary: The Centennial Academy custodian was established for the purpose(s) of providing custodial services for the school by ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. The custodian will perform a variety of special cleaning operations including assisting in preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events.
Who we are looking for: A Centennial Academy custodian believes in the power of TEAMWORK. Our custodial team is the backbone of our school and is committed to our core value of EXCELLENCE. Our custodial team strives to ensure our facilities and classrooms are in excellent condition. This individual is committed to creating a clean and welcoming environment in our building that allows students and teachers to thrive.

Essential Duties:
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out the trash, tidying furniture, and dusting surfaces
  • Floor care functions based on school standards and procedures; perform floor care such as waxing, stripping, buffing, and other contractual duties according to regulations
  • Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets
  • Wash and sanitize toilets and sinks, and restock disposables (e.g. soap)
  • Wipe mirrors, windows, doors, desks, and chairs
  • Maintain beautification of outer premises by watering plants, making sure fixtures and entrances are clean and picking up trash
  • Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks, etc.)
  • Report major damages and oversee repairs
  • Work with team members to complete the daily task schedule provided by the Facilities Manager
  • Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm; follow the established protocol for opening the building
  • Undertake occasional miscellaneous custodial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma is preferred but not required
  • Proven experience as a custodian or in a similar role
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
  • Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices
  • Ability to lift 50lbs to 75lbs
  • One or more years of Floor Stripping, Waxing, and Buffing experience
  • One or more years of Lifting amp; Moving Furniture, over 50 pounds
  • One or more years of School Maintenance Work experience
  • Must be able to pass a background check in accordance with local law/regulations
