CUSTODIAN TECH – FULTON COUNTY JAIL SYSTEM


Location: Atlanta, GA

Pay Rate: $18.00/HR + Benefits

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Some weekends may be required

Position Summary


We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Custodian Technician to support cleaning, sanitation, and general upkeep operations within the Fulton County Jail System. The Custodian Technician will be responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary conditions throughout assigned areas while following strict correctional facility security and safety procedures.


This position may involve working around or alongside inmate worker crews and requires professionalism, good judgment, and strict adherence to facility policies.


Core Responsibilities


Clean and sanitize assigned areas, including restrooms, cells, common areas, offices, hallways, and other facility spaces.

Sweep, mop, strip, wax, and buff floors as needed.

Vacuum carpets and perform routine floor and surface care.

Empty trash and properly handle and dispose of waste.

Safely use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and janitorial supplies according to established procedures.

Assist with the handling and disposal of potentially hazardous or biohazard materials when required.

Direct, monitor, and coordinate inmate worker crews assigned to cleaning duties.

Maintain awareness of security procedures while working around inmates and within restricted areas.

Properly account for cleaning equipment, tools, chemicals, and other supplies.

Report damaged equipment, safety hazards, maintenance concerns, or other facility issues to the appropriate personnel.

Maintain adequate inventory of cleaning supplies and notify management when supplies need to be replenished.

Follow all facility security, safety, sanitation, and confidentiality requirements.

Perform other custodial duties as assigned.


Position Requirements


  • Must be able to successfully complete required background checks, fingerprinting, and security clearances to work within the Fulton County Jail System.
  • Prior custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or general maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move cleaning supplies, equipment, trash, and other materials as required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and sanitary environment.
  • Must be dependable, professional, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and follow correctional facility security protocols.
  • Must be comfortable working in a correctional facility environment and around inmate populations.
  • Must follow all rules regarding tools, equipment, chemicals, and prohibited items within the facility.
