What is a Curam job?

A Curam job typically involves working with IBM Curam, a software framework used for social program management by government agencies. Professionals in this role may handle system design, development, implementation, and support of Curam-based solutions. Common job titles include Curam Developer, Curam Business Analyst, or Curam Consultant. These roles require knowledge of Java, Curam SPM (Social Program Management), and sometimes government regulations related to health and human services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Curam position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Curam Business Analyst or Developer, you need a solid understanding of Curam software, case management principles, and government health and human services programs, typically supported by a degree in computer science, IT, or a related field. Expertise in Curam-specific tools, frameworks, and certifications—such as Curam Certified Developer or Business Analyst—are highly valued, along with experience in Java, SQL, and system integration. Exceptional analytical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills empower individuals to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions. These abilities are critical for successfully implementing and supporting complex Curam-based systems that improve public service delivery.

What typical responsibilities does a Curam Specialist have on a project team?

A Curam Specialist is responsible for analyzing client requirements, designing and configuring Curam applications, and supporting the development and testing of case management solutions. Daily tasks often include conducting workshops with stakeholders, writing functional and technical documentation, configuring business rules, and troubleshooting application issues. Collaboration with project managers, testers, and developers is common to ensure solutions are aligned with client needs and system specifications. This role offers the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of public sector programs and to build expertise in a widely used enterprise platform, which can open paths to leadership or solutions architect positions.
