Job description

Cultivation Assistant | Vineland, NJ Full-Time · On-Site · Cannabis Cultivation
The Opportunity
We're partnering with Our Client, one of New Jersey's premier cannabis cultivators, to find a hands-on and knowledgeable Cultivation Assistant to support their large-scale commercial grow operation. This is a role for someone who genuinely loves working with plants, understands that cannabis cultivation is both a science and a craft, and brings the focus and reliability that a living, breathing garden demands every single day.
If you're passionate about cultivation, thrive in a structured but dynamic environment, and want to grow your career inside one of the most established cannabis operations in the Garden State — this is worth a look.
What You'll Own
You'll be working directly in the grow, supporting all aspects of the cultivation cycle from propagation through harvest — under the direction of the Cultivation Manager.
Day-to-Day Plant Care
  • Feed, water, and maintain plants on daily, weekly, monthly, and harvest batch schedules
  • Perform defoliation, general canopy maintenance, super-cropping, and topping (coppicing)
  • Manage transitions from vegetative to flowering stages
  • Clone and propagate new plant starts; identify and separate male vs. female plants
  • Monitor and maintain EC (ppm) and pH levels in nutrient reservoirs and planted media
  • Monitor and maintain ideal CO2 enrichment levels throughout grow environments
Cultivation & Garden Management
  • Maintain a consistent harvest and production schedule across multiple cultivars and flowering environments
  • Track and tag plants for inventory and state compliance identification
  • Manage plant schedules and organization across all grow spaces
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant working environment at all times
  • Perform proper waste disposal per facility and state protocols
Technical Knowledge & Troubleshooting
  • Implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to prevent pathogens and pests
  • Apply best sustainable cultivation management practices whenever possible
  • Troubleshoot cultivation equipment failures and escalate as needed
  • Apply basic plumbing, drainage, and electrical knowledge (120v vs. 208/240v) as needed
  • Recognize, prevent, and respond to hermaphroditic plant organs
  • Identify a wide range of cannabis strains and their characteristics
Supplies & Inventory Support
  • Assist the Lead Cultivator in maintaining inventory of all cultivation supplies including soil/soilless media, geopots, nutrients, compost tea ingredients, pH adjusters, media rinsing agents, water filters, and more
  • Communicate restocking needs proactively to prevent supply gaps
What You Bring
Nice to Have:
  • Prior experience in commercial cannabis cultivation or a large-scale horticultural/agricultural environment
  • Familiarity with nutrient recipes, reservoir management, and grow system maintenance
  • Knowledge of cannabis genetics, strains, and their specific growing requirements
  • Experience starting plants from seed and managing full crop cycles
Must Have:
  • Genuine passion for plant cultivation and cannabis as a craft
  • Ability to collect and record accurate production data consistently
  • Strong communication skills — clear, honest, and effective with teammates and management
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to exercise independent judgment when needed
  • High level of patience, flexibility, and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems and applications
  • Basic arithmetic skills for nutrient calculations and data recording
  • Ability to anticipate team needs and respond with moderate direction

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to pass all required state and company background screening requirements in accordance with New Jersey cannabis regulations.
Schedule & Availability
Given the nature of working with living plants, this role requires flexibility. The Cultivation Assistant is expected to maintain open communication with the Cultivation Manager regarding scheduling and to be responsive when the garden requires attention beyond standard hours. This may include:
  • Nights, weekends, and holidays as plant needs and harvest schedules dictate
  • Overtime during peak harvest periods
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a busy cannabis nursery, greenhouse, and/or finishing facility
  • Environments can be loud due to fans and filtration systems
  • Temperature fluctuations between hot and cold conditions are common
  • Exposure to fertilizers and other standard crop production chemicals — proper PPE required per SDS guidelines
  • Fast-paced, physically active environment requiring sustained focus and energy
Accommodations
Our Client is committed to an inclusive hiring process. Reasonable accommodations are available throughout the application, interview, and onboarding process for anyone who needs them.
Equal Opportunity
Our Client is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workforce representative of the communities they serve. All qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
This position is being filled through Vangst. Apply today to be considered.
