Program Overviewย 

The Commercial Installer SkillBridge Internship withย Weswoodย Specialties provides transitioning service members with hands-on training in the installation of specialty commercial construction products across a variety of job sites. Participants will learn industry-standard installation techniques, job-site safety practices, project coordination processes, and customer service expectations within the commercial construction sector.ย 

During this internship, participants will work alongside experienced installation professionals and project managers to gain practical field experience while developing technical and professional skills applicable to careers in construction trades, field operations, and specialty product installation.ย 

Successful trainees may be considered for full-time employment asย Installers withย Weswoodย Specialtiesย upon completion of the program.ย 

Training Environmentย 

SkillBridge participants will train in real-world commercial construction environments, working alongside experienced installers, field supervisors, and project management professionals. This immersive experience includes hands-on installation work, job-site safety practices, and coordination with construction teamsโ€”providingย a strong foundationย for careers in construction trades, field operations, and specialty product installation.ย 

Key Training Areasย 

Participants will receive structured training and mentorship in:ย 

  • Commercial construction site operations and workflowย 

  • Reading and interpreting basic project drawings and installation instructionsย 

  • Specialty product installation techniquesย 

  • Job-site safety practices and OSHA-aligned complianceย 

  • Project coordination between field teams and project managersย 

  • Professional communication with contractors, supervisors, and customersย 

  • Time management and productivity on active construction sitesย 

  • Quality assurance and customer satisfaction practicesย 

Hands-On Training Activitiesย 

Under the supervision of experienced installers and field leadership, SkillBridge participants will gain practical experience in the following areas:ย 

Installation Skills Developmentย 

Learn to install specialty commercial products including:ย 

  • Lockersย 

  • Toilet partitions and accessoriesย 

  • Signage systemsย 

  • Cubicle track and privacy curtainsย 

  • Apartment-style mailbox unitsย 

  • Other related specialty construction productsย 

  • Practice proper installation techniques using industry tools and materialsย 

  • Assistย with product layout, measurement, and secure mounting proceduresย 

  • Developย proficiencyย inย maintainingย installation quality standardsย 

Project Preparation & Coordinationย 

Learn how field installation integrates with overall project management by:ย 

  • Review project scopes, drawings, and specifications with supervisorsย 

  • Learn how project timelines and job-site schedules are coordinatedย 

  • Assistย with preparation and staging of materials and tools for installationsย 

  • Observe andย participateย in communication between field teams and project managersย 

Job-Site Safety Trainingย 

Will develop strong safety awareness and compliance practices through:ย 

  • Learn and follow company safety policies and job-site safety proceduresย 

  • Observe proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)ย 

  • Identifyย potential hazards on construction sites and practice safe work behaviorsย 

  • Collaborate with the internal safety team whenย requiredย 

Customer Interaction & Professional Conductย 

Will build professional communication skills by:ย 

  • Observe and practice professional communication with customers and site supervisorsย 

  • Support efforts toย maintainย strong working relationships with contractors and project partnersย 

  • Learn the importance of responsiveness, professionalism, and quality workmanship inย maintainingย client satisfactionย 

Ideal Candidateย 

This program is suited for transitioning service members with experience or interest in construction, engineering, safety,ย logistics, or field operations.ย 

Preferred Skills & Attributes:ย 

  • Military occupational specialties involving construction, engineering, or maintenanceย 

  • Mechanical aptitude or experience using hand toolsย 

  • Interest in construction trades or skilled labor careersย 

  • Ability to follow instructions and work within structured proceduresย 

  • Prior construction related experience isย preferred butย notย required.ย ย Trainingย will be provided during the program.ย 

Career Pathwaysย 

Successful completion of this SkillBridge program may lead toย full-time employment as an Installer,ย Lead Installer,ย or similar rolesย withinย Weswoodย Specialtiesย or AAC Contracting.ย 

  • Salary Range (upon conversion):ย $20/hr. - $30/hr.ย based on experience and performanceย
