Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: This position allows the surgical technologist student to gain experience in the Operating Room environment by working as an assistant to a CST in an environment that fosters growth, professionalism, and teamwork. The Certified Surgical Technologist Student Extern reports to Surgical Services Leadership. During surgery, functions under the direction and direct supervision of the attending surgeon within the operating room. Performs duties within the scope and practice of position set by the Association of Surgical Technologists while remaining in the role of student and not exceeding the student scope of practice. Must be available 16-20 hours per week (can schedule around school schedule).
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Required: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology. Must remain in good academic standing while enrolled. Must have completed the first year of the CST program in good standing and have a written recommendation from the program Director. Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques used in the preparation of materials, supplies and equipment for various surgical procedures. Knowledge of various types of equipment used in the operating room. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. BLS certification.
