The CSP Technician I is responsible for decontaminating instruments and equipment. Sterilization of instruments for operative and invasive procedures, according to AORN, AST, CDC, and AMMI guidelines.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Stocks carts with supplies after the cart has been brought to sterile processing for exchange.

  • Responds to instrument and equipment requests from surgery and hospital departments.

  • Performs testing and runs biologicals on sterilizer, documenting accurately. Follows hospital policy and state regulations whenever a discrepancy occurs.

  • Operates all types of sterilizers and decontaminating equipment according to the Manufacturer's instructions.

  • Follows standard precautions when dealing with blood, biohazard material, and body fluids and using personal protective equipment.

  • Collects soiled instruments and equipment from surgery and various units within the hospital.

  • Visually inspects instruments, assuring instruments are clean before they are subjected to the sterilization process.

  • Assesses supplies required for prescribed standard surgical procedures and sets up case carts.

  • Maintains inventory, collects, disassembles, inspects, cleans, disinfects, and reassembles instrument trays and patient care equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma/GED Required

  • 1 year Surgery Preferred

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) Required if Required by Unit; Within One Year Preferred
