About Crunchyroll
Founded by fans, Crunchyroll delivers the art and culture of anime to a passionate community. We super-serve over 100 million anime and manga fans across 200+ countries and territories, and help them connect with the stories and characters they crave. Whether that experience is online or in-person, streaming video, theatrical, games, merchandise, events and more, it's powered by the anime content we all love.
Join our team, and help us shape the future of anime!
About the role
We're looking for a Director of SVOD & Membership Strategy to lead the long-term strategic direction for both the SVOD and Membership lines of business (LOBs). Reporting to the VP of SVOD & Membership Strategy, you will define the vision, roadmap, and operating rhythm that guide how Crunchyroll acquires, engages, retains, and monetizes fans through world-class subscription and membership experiences.
This role sits at the center of Crunchyroll's subscription and membership flywheel, partnering across Product, Growth, Finance, Analytics, regional teams, and adjacent LOBs to drive subscriber growth, improve member value, and shape the future of Crunchyroll's global fan ecosystem.
You bring top-tier consulting and/or corporate strategy experience along with deep expertise in global DTC subscription businesses. You're highly analytical, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and able to translate complex data and market dynamics into clear strategic direction and executive-level recommendations.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Lead annual and quarterly planning across SVOD and Membership, aligning strategic goals, financial performance, investment priorities, and operational execution
  • Develop Crunchyroll's multi-year roadmap for subscriber and membership growth using market insights, subscriber behavior, competitive intelligence, and regional opportunities
  • Build strategic frameworks and operating rhythms that align the COO organization, Finance, regional teams, and flywheel LOB leaders
  • Lead analytical deep dives into subscriber performance, retention, pricing, engagement, regional dynamics, and long-term growth drivers
  • Partner with Finance on long-range subscriber, revenue, and unit-economic forecasting to guide investment and tradeoff decisions
  • Identify and evaluate long-term growth opportunities across new business models, partnerships, platform innovation, and membership experiences
  • Guide regional market prioritization and investment strategies through structured market and performance analysis
  • Lead the evolution of Crunchyroll's membership strategy, including tiering, pricing, benefits, segmentation, and fan value proposition
  • Develop business cases and experimentation frameworks for new membership benefits, including KPI and LTV impact modeling
  • Partner across e-commerce, events, games, manga, partnerships, and licensing to strengthen Crunchyroll's connected membership ecosystem
  • Support high-priority strategic initiatives and executive-level decision making for the Senior Management Team

We are considering applicants available to work a hybrid schedule, with three days each week onsite at our Los Angeles office.
About You
We get excited about candidates, like you, because...
  • 12+ years of experience in top-tier strategy consulting and/or corporate strategy within media, technology, consumer platform, or subscription-based businesses, with deep expertise in global DTC subscription models including subscriber growth, retention, pricing, forecasting, lifecycle management, and LTV optimization
  • 5+ years of leadership experience with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and executive communication skills, including experience presenting to C-level stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to influence across highly cross-functional organizations
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments with evolving strategies and priorities
  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred
About the Team
The SVOD & Membership Strategy Team sits within the COO organization, with the VP of Strategy and Membership reporting directly to the COO. This team is tasked with shaping Crunchyroll's long-term direction and helping orchestrate how the company unlocks value, fuels global growth, and inspires deeper avidity for Crunchyroll across the anime fan ecosystem.
Why you will love working at Crunchyroll
