As a Credit & Collections Representative at Coastal Waste & Recycling, you'll play a key role in protecting company revenue while building strong relationships with our customers through professional, respectful, and solution-focused collections.
At Coastal, our Credit & Collections Representatives do more than collect payments-they help customers resolve account concerns, maintain positive relationships, and support the financial health of our growing organization.
Your Role
As a Credit & Collections Representative, you'll manage a portfolio of customer accounts by contacting customers regarding outstanding balances, resolving billing concerns, negotiating payment arrangements, and ensuring timely collections. You'll partner closely with Billing, Customer Experience, Sales, and Operations to provide exceptional customer service while helping Coastal maintain strong financial performance.
What You'll Do
  • Contact customers by phone, email, and other communication methods regarding outstanding account balances.
  • Build positive relationships while professionally resolving past-due accounts and encouraging timely payment.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements within company guidelines.
  • Review customer accounts, aging reports, invoices, credits, and payment history to identify collection opportunities.
  • Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies by partnering with Billing, Customer Experience, Sales, and Operations.
  • Document collection activities, customer conversations, payment commitments, and account updates accurately.
  • Monitor payment plans and follow up with customers to ensure commitments are fulfilled.
  • Prioritize daily collection activities to maximize recovery while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Meet individual and departmental collection goals and performance expectations.
  • Maintain confidentiality while handling customer financial information.
  • Recommend account adjustments, escalations, or further collection efforts when appropriate.

What You'll Bring
  • One (1) or more years of experience in collections, accounts receivable, customer service, call center, banking, finance, or a related role.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to confidently handle high-volume outbound calls.
  • Excellent customer service with the ability to remain professional during difficult conversations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized account management systems.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole), collections experience, or experience with Workday, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar financial systems are a plus.
