What is a creative liaison?

A Creative Liaison is a professional who acts as an intermediary between creative teams (such as designers, writers, or artists) and other departments or clients. Their main role is to facilitate communication, ensure project requirements are understood, and help translate creative ideas into actionable plans. They help manage expectations, resolve conflicts, and keep creative projects on track by bridging gaps between different stakeholders. Creative Liaisons are essential in industries like advertising, marketing, entertainment, and media where collaboration is key to successful outcomes.

How does a creative liaison typically facilitate collaboration between creative teams and clients?

A Creative Liaison plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between creative teams and clients by translating client needs into actionable briefs and ensuring clear, continuous communication throughout a project. They often coordinate meetings, manage feedback loops, and help resolve misunderstandings, making sure both parties are aligned on goals and expectations. This role requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to advocate for both the creative vision and the client's objectives. Effective Creative Liaisons foster a collaborative environment that leads to successful project outcomes and lasting professional relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative liaison, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Liaison, you need a strong background in project management, creative strategy, and communication, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with digital collaboration tools, design software, and project management platforms like Asana or Trello is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to mediate between creative teams and clients help someone stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for ensuring seamless collaboration, translating creative visions into actionable plans, and achieving successful project outcomes.

Job description

About Saylor

Saylor is a social-led, entertainment-first creative agency based in Los Angeles. Founded by former entertainment executives, we set sail in 2021 to build an independent agency that rethinks how brands communicate with today's audiences.

We believe every brand is an entertainment brand. That is why we craft ideas that move with culture, creating work that earns attention, sparks connection, and builds fandoms that last. Our clients include Netflix, Disney, Amazon, Hilton, Anthropologie, and more.

We're a tightknit crew of creatives, strategists, and makers who collaborate without ego, stay curious, and always show up for one another. We foster a supportive space where diverse perspectives are celebrated, hierarchy never blocks great ideas, and everyone is empowered to jump in, solve problems, and push creative boundaries together.

Position Overview

As a Freelance Art Director at Saylor, you will lead the visual and creative direction for high-profile pitch decks and brand and entertainment marketing campaigns. This role demands a dynamic, creative leader who can conceptualize and execute innovative designs that captivate and engage audiences across various digital and traditional media.

The Art Director will work across platforms (social, CRM, OOH, print, mailers, etc.), art styles, and a diverse set of client needs. We are looking for a passionate designer with exceptional social and editorial instincts, a love and knowledge of motion design across platforms, impeccable references, and the ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously. The ability to thrive in a rapid growth environment and to contribute to the shaping of the team as it grows is absolutely essential to success in this role.

Location and Salary

This is a freelance, contract role with a salary range of $80-$110/hr. This person must be West Coast-based. The ability to come into Saylor's Echo Park (Los Angeles) office twice weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays is a plus.

Responsibilities

Creative Vision and Execution:

  • Lead the design direction for projects from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with client objectives and compelling storytelling.
  • Innovate and set the standard for RFP presentations and project designs, pushing the boundaries of creative possibilities.
  • Embrace Saylor's core value of curiosity, fostering an environment where innovative ideas thrive.

Team Leadership & Project Management:

  • Manage and mentor a diverse team of designers, guiding them in their creative processes and professional development.
  • Promote a culture of trust, respect, and open communication, ensuring collective accountability and efficient, collaborative workflows.
  • In collaboration with the Design Resource Manager and Creative Producers, promote synergy with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and within-budget delivery of projects.
  • Actively evaluate and refine creative workflows to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and collaboration, ensuring that the design process supports Saylor's objectives and fosters a productive creative environment.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Creative Director - Design, fellow Art Directors,  and other department heads to create cohesive and impactful creative strategies.
  • Mentor and uplift fellow designers and their ideas to promote collaboration and innovation, ensuring that all team members contribute creatively to projects.
  • Champion inclusivity, ensuring diverse perspectives are integrated into project workflows and creative outputs.

Innovation:

  • Continuously seek out and apply the latest trends and technologies in design and multimedia to keep Saylor at the forefront of the industry.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptability, encouraging the team to explore new ideas and solutions.

Client Relations:

  • Serve as a creative liaison for clients, effectively presenting ideas and gathering feedback as needed.
  • Build and maintain trust through consistent delivery of outstanding creative work and by exceeding client expectations.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of extensive experience as an Art Director, preferably in digital and social media advertising, within the entertainment or related creative industry.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team of creative professionals.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing innovative design solutions.
  • Strong proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects), Google Slides, Power Point, Keynote, and project management software (Asana/Monday.com). Extensive knowledge of digital design processes, digital marketing, and motion design.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, capable of managing multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a commitment to developing and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Attention to detail with a keen eye for aesthetics and visual details.

Benefits

We offer a competitive salary, health insurance, 401k, generous vacation, and great opportunities for growth within the company.
