Director of Events Marketing

Nextnav

Reston, VA • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Posted 6 days ago

Job description

NextNav (Nasdaq: NN) is redefining what location technology can do. Where GPS falls short - indoors, underground, in dense urban environments - NextNav's terrestrial-based positioning network fills the gap, delivering precise vertical (altitude) and horizontal location data that GPS simply cannot provide. Our technology powers critical applications across public safety, aviation, smart cities, and enterprise, enabling first responders, navigation systems, and connected devices to know not just where something is, but exactly where it is in three dimensions.

As a publicly traded company at an inflection point in our growth, NextNav is building the infrastructure for a more precise, more connected world. This is a company with meaningful technology, a clear mission, and significant runway - and we are investing in the team and the brand to match.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Director of Marketing to join NextNav at an exciting stage of the company's growth. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who brings creative vision, strategic instinct, and genuine passion for brand-building, events, and partnerships.

You will own the marketing function day-to-day, working closely with business development, product, and senior leadership to position NextNav as a recognized leader in the location technology space - not just a technology provider, but the definitive name in precision positioning. You will have the opportunity to build the marketing engine from the ground up, shape the brand narrative, and create the kind of external presence that opens doors in government, enterprise, aviation, and beyond.

Success in this role requires an appreciation for the unique regulatory, public policy, and federal landscape in which NextNav operates. The Director of Marketing will partner closely with Product, Regulatory Affairs, Government Affairs Legal, and Business Development to ensure marketing initiatives accurately reflect technical capabilities, evolving industry standards, and regulatory considerations while strengthening NextNav's market leadership.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

Brand Strategy & Positioning

  • Define and steward the company's brand identity, voice, and market positioning
  • Develop messaging frameworks that communicate the company's value clearly to target audiences
  • Ensure consistency across all external touchpoints - digital, print, events, and partnerships
  • Position NextNav as a category leader in precision location technology - recognized as the definitive alternative to GPS for vertical and indoor positioning
  • Partner with Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Product, and Government Affairs to ensure all external messaging accurately reflects regulatory requirements, technical capabilities, and approved product claims
  • Develop messaging that supports industry standards initiatives, FCC- related activities, public safety programs, and government stakeholder engagement
  • Translate complex regulatory and technical topics into compelling, market-ready messaging for commercial, enterprise, and federal audiences

Events

  • Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of company events, conferences, and industry presence
  • Identify and prioritize event opportunities that drive brand awareness, pipeline, and partnerships
  • Own end-to-end event delivery - from concept and agenda through vendor management and post-event follow-up
  • Build and manage a calendar of events aligned to business development and growth objectives

Strategic Partnerships & Market Development

  • Identify and cultivate partnerships that extend the company's reach and reinforce its brand
  • Work closely with the business development team to align marketing strategy to partnership priorities
  • Represent the company at external forums, industry groups, and partner events
  • Support the development of international market opportunities where relevant
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs and Government Affairs to align marketing strategies with federal initiatives and industry priorities
  • Support executive communications around spectrum policy, position technology, public safety, aviation, and emerging standards
  • Ensure marketing materials comply with company review processes, public company communication guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Help position NextNav as a trusted thought leader with policymakers, industry associations, standards bodies, and strategic partners.

Creative & Digital

  • Oversee creative output including campaigns, content, design, and digital presence
  • Lead content strategy across owned channels including website, LinkedIn, and social media
  • Drive improvements to the company's digital footprint - website, SEO, and online brand experience
  • Manage external creative agencies and vendors as needed

Team & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Manage and develop approximately one direct report, with the team expected to grow
  • Collaborate closely with business development, product, and the executive team
  • Know when to build in-house versus outsource, and manage agency and vendor relationships accordingly
  • Contribute to company-wide strategy discussions as a marketing thought partner to leadership
  • Serve as marketing liaison across Product Management, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Government Affairs, Investor Relations, and Business Development
  • Balance speed-to-market with appropriate regulatory, technical, and executive review processes

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Experience & Background

  • 7+ years of marketing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or director-level role
  • Proven track record in brand strategy, events, and creative leadership
  • Experience building and managing marketing functions - not just executing within them
  • Experience Marketing products or technologies influenced by government regulation, industry standards, or public policy.
  • Experience partnering with legal, regulatory, engineering, or technical organizations on external communications

Skills & Strengths

  • Strong strategic thinker who can translate business priorities into marketing action
  • Creative leader with high standards for brand quality and storytelling
  • Energetic relationship builder - comfortable engaging executives, partners, customers, and external audiences
  • Intellectually curious with the ability to get up to speed quickly in a technical or unfamiliar domain
  • Hands-on and resourceful - able to lead and do, especially in a lean team environment
  • Clear communicator, both written and verbal

Mindset

  • Comes in curious - asks questions before declaring answers
  • Thinks about the brand from the outside in: how the market perceives us, not just how we see ourselves
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by building something
  • Collaborative by default, with the confidence to drive a point of view

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Background in technology, B2B, telecommunications, wireless, infrastructure, SaaS, aerospace, defense, public safety, or a similarly complex market preferred; nonprofit or mission-driven sector experience a plus
  • Familiarly with FCC processes, spectrum policy, standards organizations, government contracting, or federal technology initiatives is highly desirable
  • Experience managing through an organizational build or scale phase

WHAT WE OFFER

  • A high-impact role at a pivotal stage of the company's growth
  • Collaborative, mission-driven culture with a leadership team invested in your success
  • Competitive compensation package including base salary, bonus, and equity
  • Hybrid work model with flexibility
  • Opportunity to shape the marketing functionand build the team around you
