Job description

Contemporary Art Teacher (Grades K-12)

One River School of Art + Design
$20-$27 per hour

At One River School, we believe children are capable of real artistic thinking. We’re looking for practicing artists and passionate educators who want to introduce young creators (Grades K-2 and Grades 3-12) to contemporary art in ways that feel exciting, meaningful, and wildly engaging.

If you love the energy of a studio, believe process matters as much as product, and want to help students see themselves as artists from day one—this could be your space.

What You’ll Do

Lead dynamic, hands-on weekly art classes for students (Weekday Afternoons and Evenings and Saturdays)
Explore contemporary approaches across painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, mixed media, and 3D work
Encourage experimentation, creative risk-taking, and big imaginative thinking
Create “WOW moments” that build confidence and artistic voice
Connect thoughtfully with families about student growth and creative breakthroughs

This isn’t craft-time. It’s real art—made accessible, joyful, and inspiring.

Why Artists Thrive at One River

Studio Energy
Teach in a beautiful, contemporary space with an in-house gallery showcasing student work and emerging artists.

Curriculum Support (No Burnout)
Our thoughtfully designed curriculum gives you structure and inspiration—without endless prep.

Fully Equipped Classrooms
All materials, tools, and supplies are provided so you can focus on teaching and creating.

Creative Community
Work alongside fellow artists and educators who care deeply about art, growth, feedback, and inclusion.

Flexible Schedule for Creative Lives
Evenings and weekends (Saturday/Sunday). Later start times leave your mornings open for studio practice or other creative pursuits.

Room to Grow
We’re a growing organization committed to promoting from within and building long-term careers in art education.

Who You Are

A practicing or highly engaged artist with at least 1 year of teaching experience
Confident working across multiple mediums
Energized by working with children and nurturing their creative confidence
Warm, engaging, and student-centered
A thoughtful communicator who values relationships with families and colleagues
Aligned with our mission to transform art education

Education:
BFA or BS in Art Education required
MFA or Master’s in Art Education is a plus
