Job description

Job Title: Pharmacy Technician - Outpatient (Managed Care / Prior Authorization)

Location: Portland, OR 

Shift Details: Day Shift | 5x8 Hours | 08:00 AM - 05:00 PM
Contract Duration: 26 Weeks
On-call: 2-3 weekends per year
Orientation: 40 Hours (Non-Billable - Reduced Orientation Job)


Required Qualifications
  • Oregon Pharmacy Technician License required
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required (mandatory)
  • Minimum 2 years of pharmacy technician experience OR Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in managed care / prior authorization preferred
  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT coding, and medical terminology
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle high-volume workload independently
  • Knowledge of pharmacy laws, insurance regulations, and HIPAA

Job Responsibilities
  • Process pharmacy prior authorizations based on clinical guidelines
  • Review and validate pharmacy claims, eligibility, and benefit data
  • Handle inbound calls and route requests to clinical teams as needed
  • Perform data entry for authorizations, referrals, and medication records
  • Apply ICD-10 and CPT coding for case tracking and documentation
  • Communicate with providers, pharmacies, and members regarding cases
  • Audit claims and documentation for accuracy and compliance
  • Support pharmacy benefit operations and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare reports and assist with quality improvement activities
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards
