What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CPG Designer, you need expertise in graphic design, packaging development, brand strategy, and a relevant degree in design or a related field. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, 3D modeling software, and familiarity with packaging production processes are typically required. Creativity, collaboration, and an understanding of consumer behavior are key soft skills that set standout designers apart. These skills ensure the creation of visually compelling, functional, and marketable packaging that successfully appeals to consumers and supports brand objectives.

How does a CPG Design professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams such as marketing and product development?

CPG Design professionals frequently work alongside marketing, product development, and sales teams to ensure that packaging and product visuals align with brand strategy and market needs. This collaboration often involves brainstorming sessions, feedback loops, and joint meetings to integrate consumer insights and technical requirements into design concepts. Effective communication and adaptability are essential, as projects may shift based on market trends or retailer feedback. This collaborative environment helps designers create compelling, functional packaging that stands out on shelves and supports overall business goals.

What is CPG design?

CPG design refers to the creation and development of packaging and branding for Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), which are products sold quickly and at relatively low cost, such as food, beverages, and household items. CPG designers focus on making products visually appealing, functional, and compliant with regulations while aligning with brand identity. Their work involves graphic design, product packaging, and sometimes structural design to enhance shelf presence and consumer engagement.

Job description

Live Event Executive Producer
CPG Agency is a highly regarded experiential agency with an outstanding portfolio of Fortune 500 accounts including Southwest Airlines, Ulta Beauty, Yum! Brands, Jimmy John's, and many others. We specialize in corporate communications and events, helping our clients succeed in all areas of the employee and franchisee lifecycle: recruitment, onboarding, training, recognition, and celebration. In our 40th year, CPG creates award-winning work in an environment of collaboration, strategic thinking, and growth.
We're looking for a smart, experienced, strategic business meeting Executive Producer to join our team. Our Executive Producers do more than just manage schedules, budgets, and AV vendors (those are table stakes). They become trusted advisors to our clients, understanding their business, anticipating their needs, and helping them design successful experiences that move the needle on their objectives. Our Executive Producers are responsible for the success of our largest projects, leading the project team in creating and managing all aspects of the experience.
CPG Executive Producers are typically stronger in the strategic, content and messaging aspects of the role rather than the technical facets of an event, as our projects are supported by technical directors and technical project managers. You may come from the theater world, from corporate communications, or from an events production background. Your pedigree is less important to us than your ability to sit at the table with members of the C-suite, creating an agenda from scratch or helping to craft the event's key messages. We're looking for someone with strong event design ability, excellent communication skills, and a desire to see the big picture as well as managing the details. We want someone who's worked on hundreds of business meetings and still brings a fresh take on how to execute messaging, venue branding, scenic, video, entertainment, and pre/post event communication. Strong skills in negotiation, listening, diplomacy and collaboration are a must.
The successful candidate will have 5+ years of experience producing large-scale events and experiential projects. This is a full-time position within the Production Services team, reporting to the Director, Agency Operations.

  • Work collaboratively with internal team members including Creative Directors, Associate Producers, Account Directors,

  • Work with creative team on development of show strategies focused on content and theming and implementation of show strategy throughout creative elements
  • Support clients in developing key deliverables including show flow, story arcs, speeches, presentations, etc.
  • Ensure creative deliverables meet client expectations

ONSITE MANAGEMENT
  • Lead onsite implementation, responsible for successful execution of program
  • Manage production crew, vendors, venue, and clients
  • Coach senior-level executives in developing and delivering successful presentations

ADMINISTRATIVE/TEAM
  • Select and manage internal and external (vendor) resources
  • Ensure all project financial paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner

  • Ability to travel (15-40% depending on time of year)
  • Above average organizational and problem-solving skills

This is a full-time salaried position. Our downtown STL office currently operates on a hybrid schedule with three days in office and two days WFH. Remote candidates will be considered.
If you're passionate about doing great work (while having fun) every day, we want to meet you.
