We are currently accepting applications for the Fall 2026 School Year.
THIS IS A 1-YEAR COLLEGE PROGRAM - Students attend college full time at Central Piedmont Community College "CPCC" for appox. 20 weeks and then transition to monthly rotations between school and shop for hands on training by working part-time as a paid intern at one of our branch locations. The Carolina CAT program blends Carolina CAT's industry techniques with Central Piedmont's state-of-the-art facilities to create a unique learning experience that will prepare you to enter the workforce as an entry-level service technician. As a CAT dealer technician, you enjoy hands-on work with large-scale, high-tech engines and machines. With proper training, you have the opportunity to work with advanced technology - including electronic engine control and electro-hydraulic system controls. You'll be working with your hands and your head.
The Carolina Cat program features:
  • Courses focused on heavy equipment sold by Carolina CAT
  • Hands-on activities, including training on Caterpillar equipment
  • An eight-week work-based learning experience with Carolina CAT
  • Classes led by Central Piedmont's quality faculty and Carolina CAT's technical trainers
  • A convenient location at Central Piedmont's Merancas Campus

The requirements for admission are as follows:
  • Possess a passion and STRONG desire to become a Caterpillar Technician
  • Possess a basic mechanical aptitude
  • Have earned or will earn a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be 18 years of age or older by the time of your first internship
  • Be able to meet CPCC admission requirements, which include placement testing and an application and interview process with the school and the dealer
  • Pass a background check
  • Pass a drug screening
  • You must be accepted by both the dealer and the school.
