Job description

Barista/Cashier

Position Summary:

The Barista/Cashier is responsible for serving all Cafe products with friendly, individualized attention towards members and guests. He/she is also responsible for educating customers about our premium coffees and teas. The barista fulfills other duties as deemed by the Cafe manager or supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Understands and implements the Madison Cafes statement of purpose and service guarantees.
  • Understands and adheres to the Club attendance policy. Reports to work area on time,
  • Appropriately dressed and groomed and prepared to work.
  • Completes thorough detailing of the Cafe and all side duties before the shift begins.
  • Learns daily and weekly specials offered on the menu
  • Greets guests within 30 seconds of their arrival with a smile and using the correct time of day greeting.
  • Verbally receives and calls back customer orders, delivers food and beverage orders following the Madison Cafe Steps of Service as a timing guide.
  • Uses the members name a minimum of one time during the interaction.
  • Conducts oneself as a lady/gentleman with members, guests and co-workers.
  • Properly times the service to conform to the guests needs.
  • Serves members in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Has a clear understanding of the Club rules and reports infractions to management in a professional manner.
  • Completes accurate closing paperwork for the manager/supervisor on duty. All extra gratuities, voids or discounts must be initialed by a manager/supervisor.
  • Ensures that all customers are educated on our products and services; answers customer

questions.

  • Maintains the highest quality, consistent product standards.
  • Follows all DAC drink recipes and procedures, including blended and cold drinks.
  • Develops an understanding of coffee and tea regions and the various differences in flavor and blends.
  • Begins to educate themselves on the various types of coffee, tea products, blends, and roasts.
  • Answers telephone in a courteous and friendly manner including, but not limited to, giving greeting, directions to location, and receiving and filling customer orders.
  • Additional sidework and tasks, including but not limited to, restocking shelves, routinely cleaning area, floor, windows, grinders, take out trash, distribution of shipment and requisitions.
  • Reports all customer feedback, potential safety hazards, all employee incidents, and any operational inconsistencies to manager.

All employees are expected to comply with all Club (and Madison Cafe specific) standards and procedures upon hire to maintain safe and efficient operations. Employees who violate Club (and Madison Cafe specific) standards and procedures will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position is required to perform certain supportive functions. The amount of time spent performing each of these functions is to be solely determined by the manager/supervisor on duty and is based on the particular requirements of the Madison Cafe or Club.

  • Perform all assigned sidework, including restocking, replenishing, and cleaning work areas as needed.
  • Perform any general cleaning tasks (including spills and accidents) to adhere to health standards and room specifications.
  • Assist in the training of newly hired employees.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

An individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to explain and demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Must have good knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations and etiquette.
  • Knowledge of appropriate service ware and menu items.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficient to understand menus, record orders, communicate with members and guests to explain and record orders.
  • Ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items.
  • Ability to operate a point of sale system accurately.

Qualification Standards:

Education:

Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Experience:

Prior hospitality experience (barista/cafe experience specifically) is preferred.

Licenses and Certificates:

Ability to obtain any Club required certification or licenses.

  • CPP 100% Certified

Other:

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to support the business needs of the Club.
