General Function
Plans, coordinates and supports laboratory activities for the instructional program in various settings which include classrooms, greenhouses and outdoors.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Monitors students as necessary to support instruction.
  2. Prepares facilities for classes ensuring that work areas are neat, clean, and safe.
  3. Ensures that equipment, materials and supplies are ready for classes.
  4. Assists in maintaining laboratory equipment which may include basic maintenance, cleaning and storing equipment when not in use. Notifies supervisors of needed repairs.
  5. Monitors supplies and material inventories; initiates ordering process as necessary.
  6. Maintains greenhouses and the hoop-house utilizing good cultural practices assuring optimum plant growth including watering, fertilization, and pest management.
  7. Implements assigned activities based on the CPCC Greenhouse Operations Plan in a timely manner. Includes regular greenhouse sanitation, maintenance and environmental monitoring.
  8. Assists plant production classes and instructor with plant sale activities.
  9. Assists in the regular maintenance of the CPCC Horticulture complex grounds.
  10. Regularly monitors and mows putting greens as assigned.
  11. Assures fuel driven equipment is fueled and ready for use. Coordinates repairs with instructors for timely resolution.
  12. Assists in maintaining the CPCC Grounds Inventory and proper plant labeling.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in Horticulture and Turfgrass Management or related and/or two years of experience in the field/discipline or must be enrolled in the Horticulture or Turfgrass Management Program
Additional Information
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of Greenhouses, Nursery, and Fine Turf, including plant materials, pesticides, and related supplies.
  • Knowledge of laboratory protocol, operations and procedures for greenhouse and nursery crops.
  • Knowledge and skills in maintaining grasses (including putting greens), plants (shrubs and small trees) including operation of mowers and other related equipment.
  • Possess a valid driver license, and be dependable.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, and work with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
