BUS DRIVER - PT
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The primary focus of this position is to safely transport Clients to and from the assigned Senior Center and various activities filling in for the regular driver. Also may act as an additional driver for special events. The position requires availability for a split shift and other shifts as needed which may include day or evening travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:
This listing is representative of the duties and responsibilities of the position, but is not to be construed as all inclusive:
  1. Transport Clients by picking them up at their homes and returning them there, following an established route. Transport seniors to the Senior Centers and other destinations as determined by the Center Director. Assist the seniors safely on and off the bus as needed and with any packages. Some positions will have the option of delivering homebound meals between the morning and afternoon runs allowing for a full day of work while keeping part-time status.
  2. Responsible for observing and following all applicable laws including posted speed limits, safe following distances, and defensive driving techniques as well as Agency policies. Responsible for immediately reporting any accidents or incidents.
  3. Responsible for inspecting and cleaning the inside and outside of the vehicle daily, completing minor repairs and regular maintenance. Report any problems or unsafe conditions to the Transportation Program Director.
  4. Responsible for maintaining a daily log including mileage, maintenance, and ridership. Complete all other reports as required by the Program Director on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.
  5. Attend all training and safety meetings.
  6. Assist Center Directors with member services as needed; for example calling Bingo, delivering Meals on Wheels, and assisting with center activities.
  7. Responsible for recruiting Clients to increase ridership. Responsible for requesting transportation donations from clients.
  8. Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned or required.

REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum requirements for this position are:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  2. Must possess a valid state of Delaware CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with passenger endorsement in good standing.
  3. Must maintain Defensive Driving Certification.
  4. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.
  5. Must possess or complete a DOT pre-employment physical, drug test, and optical examination. The position is subject to annual DOT physical exam and random drug/alcohol testing.
  6. Must possess knowledge of the geographical area in Sussex County. Ability to read and follow maps and/or verbal and written directions.
  7. Knowledge of required routine vehicle maintenance.
  8. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  9. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one or small group situations to Clients and other Agency employees.
REPORTING: This position reports to the Transportation Program Director
PRIMARY WORK LOCATION: Various locations in Sussex County, DE
WORK HOURS: Three days per week from 7 AM to 3:30 PM.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
BENEFIT ELIGIBILITY: Regular part-time eligibility includes paid time off (PTO) based on hours worked and years of service. 403(b) Retirement plan – no match. Optional AFLAC insurance, legal shield insurance at cost.
