Description
University Enterprises, Inc. Human Resources, located on the Sacramento State campus, is seeking to hire a Student Assistant. Under general supervision, the Student Assistant will provide a full range of front counter customer service and administrative support duties, including greeting walk-in customers, answering phone calls, responding to emails and ticketing system inquiries, assisting with employment verifications, filing, copying, scanning, data entry, and distributing department mail.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.
UEI is not a multi-state employer. UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California. If selected for the position you must reside in California and all work must be performed in the state of California throughout the course of employment.
Prerequisites
Must be a Sac State student enrolled in at least six-semester units (undergrad) or four-semester units (graduate) students.

Work Schedule
Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. Final work schedule to be determined by supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).
Compensation
$18.40 - $19.40 per hour
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current enrollment as a Sacramento State student in good academic standing.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and ability to work effectively with the public while providing professional, courteous, and positive customer service in person, by email, and over the phone.
  • Knowledge of general office methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and standard office equipment, including copiers, scanners, and multi-line telephone systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer service-oriented environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple assignments in a timely and efficient manner in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and maintaining sensitive, confidential information.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Majoring in Business Administration (Management of Human Resources & Organizational Behavior) and/or minor in Management and Organizational Behavior.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists with general administrative support duties, including filing, scanning, copying, data entry and distributing mail.
  • Provides friendly and professional front counter customer service by welcoming and assisting walk-in visitors, answering questions, and directing individuals to appropriate staff or departments.
  • Assists with verbal and written employment verification requests, including preparing employment verification letters, reports, and other related correspondence and responding to verification inquiries in accordance with department procedures and confidentiality requirements.
  • Assist with follow up with employees regarding incomplete onboarding forms and assists with ensuring onboarding documents are completed and approved in a timely manner.
  • Assists with auditing, maintenance, and follow-up of I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification forms, including reviewing documentation for completeness and accuracy in accordance with federal guidelines.
  • This position will receive training on how to interpret and explain Federal and State laws related to employment and labor to student new hires.
  • Assist with recruitment outreach by targeting schools throughout California for positions located out of Sacramento.
  • Answers and directs incoming phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist with responding to general inquiries received through department email account and ticketing system.
  • Organize information and file a large volume of documents.
  • This position will also assist HR staff with other work as assigned.

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
