Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill up to three part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA) positions for the School of Nuclear Science & Engineering (NSE) at Oregon State University (OSU). This position recruitment is for NSE 234, Fall 2026.

This position performs a variety of duties in support of NSE course instruction. Responsibilities may include working with the instructor to assist with classroom and lab activities, holding office hours, and helping with grading. These duties will vary depending on the specific course requirements.

Position Duties

  • Assist with in-class activities and/or labs

  • Tutor students during regular office hours and/or in the classroom

  • Grade homework, quizzes and/or exams under instructor guidance

  • May assist with managing course materials on Canvas

  • Attend weekly meetings with the instructor of record

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theOffice of International Services(OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required

  • Undergraduate Engineering Major

  • GPA greater than 3.25

  • Completion of course with a B or higher

  • Good communication skills

  • Students must completeFERPAtraining prior to starting position.

Working Conditions/Schedule:- Work may be performed in classrooms, labs, or office spaces.
