Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) - Part Time (3 Days/Week)

Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS):
The Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) provides specialized instruction to students with visual impairments to develop the skills needed to travel safely, independently, and confidently in school, home, community, and work environments. The COMS conducts assessments, develops individualized orientation and mobility goals, collaborates with educational teams and families, and provides direct instruction in areas such as spatial awareness, navigation, use of mobility aids (including the long cane), environmental concepts, public transportation, and independent travel skills. Services are provided in accordance with each student's individualized education program (IEP) and applicable state and federal regulations.
