Graduate Associate for Fraternity and Sorority Affairs
Job Purpose
The Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life works closely with the Assistant Director of Student Activities for Fraternity and Sorority Life and assists in providing support to the university's fifteen fraternities and sororities, three governing councils, and other Greek related organizations and committees. All Graduate Associates within the Division of Student Affairs work closely with professional staff and have significant responsibility. They are active and valued members of the team. Each Graduate Associate is expected to expand their skills and contribute to the services offered in the area in which they are working. There is ample opportunity to work independently and to receive additional professional development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Advisement
- Act as a co-advisor to the fraternal community that consists of 15 Greek-letter organizations.
- Attend council meetings (College Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council)
- Assist in the planning of major Office and Council initiatives (CPC Recruitment, NPHC 101, retreats, IFC recruitment week, National Hazing Prevention Week, etc.)
- Serve as a contact person for fraternity and sorority leaders to answer questions concerning policies and procedures, awards, housing, and general chapter operations.
- Meet with and advise chapter leadership on risk management, new member education, chapter operations and other related areas.
Administrative
- Update Fraternity and Sorority website, social media, and documents when necessary.
- Maintain updated chapter rosters and officer contact information.
- Compile service hours/philanthropy information for the year.
- Coordinate Greek involvement in Freshman Move-In and Orientation.
- Collaborate with other University departments (Diversity Office, Residence Life, Academic Affairs, etc.) to broaden scope, experience, and programs for fraternal members.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of appropriate reports and assessment materials.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how student development learning, theories, and research are relevant to student learning and person development
- Prepare and facilitate roundtable discussions to the fraternal community on topics such as recruitment, chapter management, officer training, scholarship, civic engagement, diversity, risk management, etc.
Miscellaneous
- Perform others duties as assigned
Qualifications
This position requires great costumer service, professional behavior and appearance, knowledge of Greek-letter organizations, ability to hold students accountable, and the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal. Candidates must be a team player, have initiative and able to multitask.
Preferred Skills
Affiliation with a Greek-letter organization is strongly preferred.
