Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a Cost Manager - Construction to join a growing project management and construction cost consulting team in New York City. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction estimating and cost management, with experience supporting complex commercial construction projects from early design through completion.

This role is ideal for a construction professional who is analytical, detail-oriented, client-focused, and interested in developing a long-term career in construction cost management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare construction cost estimates based on feasibility, conceptual, schematic, and construction documents.

  • Develop RFPs for contractors and other project consultants.

  • Review contractor proposals and provide recommendations.

  • Manage and track project budgets, including budgeted, committed, and anticipated final costs.

  • Perform cost analysis, benchmarking, and cost forecasting.

  • Review change orders and assess their validity and cost impact.

  • Support project cost control and construction monitoring activities.

  • Prepare project cost and risk-based progress reports.

  • Participate in project meetings and communicate cost-related information to clients and project stakeholders.

  • Review design documents, conceptual sketches, and basis-of-design documents to understand project scope and cost implications.

  • Monitor construction costs from project inception through closeout.

  • Identify cost risks and provide practical recommendations to support project decision-making.

  • Collaborate with project teams, contractors, consultants, and clients to ensure effective cost management.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating, cost management, project controls, or a related construction role.

  • Experience working within the New York City construction industry.

  • Strong understanding of construction costs, estimating, and project budgets.

  • Experience with commercial construction, including interior construction and/or core and shell projects.

  • Experience estimating or managing costs related to MEP/MEPS and infrastructure systems.

  • Strong understanding of the construction supply chain, including subcontractor pricing and procurement.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, conceptual sketches, and design documents.

  • Experience reviewing contractor proposals and change orders.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and construction estimating or cost management software.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.

  • Ability to understand project objectives from the client's perspective and provide practical cost recommendations.
