Job description

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop new and revised corrugated packaging and display solutions, including cost reduction and performance improvements.
  • Create prototypes and samples using CAD software and sample cutting tables for testing and validation.
  • Write, maintain, and transmit detailed specifications, drawings, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Sales to gather customer requirements, support projects, and travel to customer sites as needed for audits, testing, and relationship building.
  • Coordinate with tooling suppliers and manage ordering, verification, and quoting of cutting dies, printing plates, labels, and preprint materials.
  • Work closely with Graphics to integrate structural design with artwork, ensuring the final package is both visually appealing and structurally sound.
  • Support Manufacturing by ensuring designs align with equipment capabilities, routing requirements, and production constraints.
  • Learn and apply customer and retail guidelines as well as industry testing protocols (e.g., ISTA, Amazon, hazmat, club store standards).
  • Manage individual project workloads using project management tools and meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Assist with routine lab, graphics, tooling verification, and departmental support activities as needed.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas while following all safety rules and company policies.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in structural or packaging design.
  • Prior experience in corrugated packaging design or the corrugated manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as ArtiosCAD or similar tools; familiarity with palletizing software (e.g., CAPE, TOPPS) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of box plant machinery, tooling, scoring, manufacturing processes, and equipment limitations.
  • Knowledge of paperboard grades, flute profiles, corrugation, printing processes, and material performance.
  • Experience operating sample cutting tables and producing physical mockups.
  • Strong analytical, math, and problem-solving skills with the ability to think in three dimensions.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
