Our agency is looking to fill a full-time, permanent WMS02 Community Corrections Supervisor (CCS) position within the Community Corrections Division (CCD). This position works for the Clarkston Field Office located at 912 6th St, Clarkston, WA 99403.
The Community Corrections Supervisor is an integral part of the Community Corrections Division management team. You will be responsible for:
  • The overall management of the Field Office.
  • Supervising individuals as it relates to RCWs, WACs, policy directives, and risk.
  • Supervising Community Corrections Officers and other corrections staff.
  • Developing, coordinating, and supervising various specialized DOC initiatives and programs for staff and supervised individuals (S/Is).

Duties
Supervise and manage staff, facilities, and work performed in assigned units.
  • Monitor individual employee and team performance.
  • Conduct timely employee performance evaluations, and ensure proper coaching and training is provided.
  • Manage staff schedules, including leave and overtime/compensatory time according to departmental guidelines.
  • Coordinate and maintain a safe/efficient workplace.
  • Enforce supervision conditions and the law as required to support CCOs.
  • Participate in arrests of supervised individuals (S/Is) in the office, at their residence, at employment sites, or at other collateral locations in a safe manner for violations of supervision and/or the law.
  • While armed, exercise sound judgment and follow department policies, procedures and protocols regarding the appropriate maintenance, security, handling, and discharge of department-issued firearms.
Implement, direct, and evaluate statewide programs/policies, such as supervised individual (S/I) reentry, risk management, S/I programs, and community involvement.
  • Approve arrest, search, and evidence management in accordance with policy and current legal mandates.
  • Respond to community, staff, family and victim concerns, criminal justice partners, and media inquiries.
  • Promote staff facilitation of and participation of supervised individuals in evidence based supervised individual change programs.
  • Participate in and maintain productive public relations with local community agencies and resources.
  • Mitigate supervised individual risk to the community.
  • Conduct Critical Incident reviews and prepare the Incident Review Report.

Promote and uphold S/I standards and practices of the agency.
  • Ensure S/I contact standards and case management is conducted per agency Policy requirements.
  • Ensure safe and effective supervision practices are met by participating with staff in the office and field work.

Completion of other administrative/managerial tasks.
  • Participate in the recruitment process.
  • Investigate staff misconduct, workplace and PREA complaints as assigned by an Appointing Authority and complete corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Respond to threats made against staff by creating and implementing protection plans.
  • Report significant incidents and events per DOC policy.
  • Participate in and maintain productive public relations.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or foreign equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in the community corrections or related field.
  • Two years of supervisory or lead experience, which can be gained concurrently with the required experience.
  • And must possess and maintain a vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Washington.
OR
  • Equivalent combination of qualifying experience and education totaling nine years.
  • Two years of supervisory or lead experience, which can be gained concurrently with the required experience.
  • And must possess and maintain a vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Washington.
The successful candidate will also possess the following REQUIRED knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive leadership in times of stress, conflict, and unforeseen events.
    • Remain calm and rational while handling difficult situations to include volatile, threatening, or other crisis and emergency situations.
    • Expertly intervene in response to threats.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of supervised individual (S/I) management, including behavior management, security and safety, and S/I programs, including preparation of S/Is for success in the community.
  • Experience working with other governmental and/or social service entities in the development or implementation of a program, project, or other joint venture.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Department of Corrections policies/procedures, RCWs, WACs, and ACA standards.
  • Experience applying the Sentencing Reform Act as it pertains to Community Placement, the Offender Accountability Act, and Sentencing Alternatives.
  • Experience in the effective application of Human Resource practices to maintain a trained and diverse workforce.

Note for Internal Candidates: Staff who do not qualify for legacy status under the provisions for arming are required to be armed and must be willing and able to possess and use a firearm under federal and state law; maintain firearm qualifications; and successfully complete ongoing training requirements associated with mandatory arming and potential use of force.
If selected for hire, you may be required to meet the following SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS and CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment.
  • Complete and pass the psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation).
  • Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
  • Become familiar and comply with all department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements, as applicable.
  • Successfully complete the Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics (CIT) training within prescribed timeframes. This requirement includes:
    • Maintaining eligibility to possess and use a firearm under federal and state laws.
    • Maintaining qualifications per department training standards with department-issued firearms and with Intermediate Force options (e.g., OC 'pepper' spray or electronic immobilization devices).
    • Maintaining CIT qualifications.
    • Completing all agency requalification training and an annual criminal history clearance to remain armed.
