The Job Details:

Under the direction of the Corporate Health and Safety Manager, the Corporate Health and Safety Specialist will work with the facilities as a resource to assist them in maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations as well as creating a proactive approach to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS).

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts routine observations and warehouse field audits based on occupational safety and automation safety
  • Identify, recommend, and ensure implementation of improvements or changes to practices, policy, or procedures
  • Attends and aids in the incident investigation process for serious injuries and incidents
  • Interprets regulations related to occupational safety and health
  • Updates 3-year review of assigned EHS policies.
  • Delivers safety related training and/or helps facilitate training
  • Organizes companywide safety initiatives (Innovators Grand Prix) including OSHA Safe and Sound Week
  • Evaluates safety committee minutes and monthly inspections reports to identify trends and at-risk situations
  • Maintains UKG Pro Learning/Assigns Training/Creates computer-based trainings
  • Serves as an expert on United States Cold Storage (USCS) Incident tracking system (HITTs)
  • Manage automation safety directive milestones (Safety survey, PSSR, MOC)
  • Support safety reviews for automated systems, conveyors, robotics, automated storage and retrieval systems, palletizers, wrappers, dock automation, and other mechanized equipment.
  • Assist with automation safety risk assessments during design, installation, commissioning, operation, and modification of equipment.
  • Verify that machine guarding, light curtains, interlocks, emergency stops, guarding gaps, access controls, and safety-rated devices are in place and functioning as intended.
  • Support lockout/tagout procedures for automated and mechanized equipment, including review of equipment-specific procedures.
  • Participate in pre-startup safety reviews and management of change activities for new or modified equipment.
  • Assist with training employees on automation safety expectations, restricted access areas, safe interaction with automated systems, and emergency response procedures.
  • Promote the use of the hierarchy of controls when addressing automation and machine-related hazards.

What We Are Looking For:

The Ideal candidate will have or be able to complete the below qualifications.

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, environmental health, or safety preferred (equivalent business experience will be considered)
    • Certification in Safety a plus (ASP or CSP)
  • Qualifications:
    • At least 5 years of experience working in the safety field
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience conducting training
    • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, Excel, Copilot
    • Must have a working knowledge of Federal, State and Local EH&S regulations and the ability to interpret requirements as they relate to United States Cold Storage
    • Must demonstrate ability to exercise judgment and tact when interfacing with employees and outside auditors, inspectors, and/or agency personnel.
    • Must be a self-starter that is able to work on and solve problems of diverse scope and complexity.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with warehousing, cold storage, ammonia, or other relevant experience a plus
