Job description

Medical Assistant / Medical Office Representative
Location: Merced, CA
Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite
Specialty: Family Medicine
Pay: $25.73

One Role. Two Ways to Make a Difference.

Cornerstone Staffing Solutions is seeking a versatile Medical Assistant / Medical Office Representative to support both patient care and front-office operations in a busy family medicine practice.
This position will primarily support the call center, referrals, authorizations, and scheduling but must be comfortable transitioning into a clinical Medical Assistant role when coverage is needed.

What You’ll Do

Patient Access and Front Office
  • Answer incoming calls and provide professional patient support.
  • Schedule appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits.
  • Coordinate referrals, authorizations, and insurance verification.
  • Obtain preauthorizations for procedures, imaging, testing, and medications.
  • Update patient demographics, insurance, and billing information.
  • Collect payments and follow established cashiering procedures.
  • Route patient messages and respond within required timeframes.
  • Assist with medical records, HIPAA forms, disability paperwork, and FMLA documentation.
Clinical Support
  • Room patients and prepare them for examinations and procedures.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, medications, and patient concerns.
  • Assist providers with examinations and in-office procedures.
  • Collect and prepare blood or other approved specimens.
  • Prepare medications and injections under an authorized provider’s written order and within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Process prescription requests as directed by the provider.
  • Prepare, clean, and restock examination rooms.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Follow infection-control, OSHA, safety, and patient-confidentiality standards.
What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant program or equivalent qualifying military training required
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification required
  • At least six months of outpatient Medical Assistant experience preferred
  • Medical office, high-volume customer service, referral, or surgical-scheduling experience preferred
  • Call center and billing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD coding, and basic pharmacology required
  • Strong computer, keyboarding, and standard office-equipment skills
  • Experience with electronic practice-management systems preferred
  • Experience using multiline or automatic call-distribution phone systems preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization, and customer-service skills
  • Flexibility to support both administrative and clinical responsibilities
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements
  • Ability to move or lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical and call-center environment
