Job description


NSF is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Lab Manager in our Analysis labs. This job involves the management and coordination of people, processes, and instrumentation to keep high volume laboratory work smoothly flowing through multiple analytical chemistry lab areas.
Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for multiple laboratory areas, with full accountability for performance, talent development, and business outcomes. Overall responsibility to ensure that production targets and turnaround time goals are met for the group.
  • Overall responsibility to ensure that the team meets safety, quality, and cost control objectives.
  • Responsibility to teach, coach, and mentor both management and other staff to build leadership capacity.
  • Coordinate resources and communications between groups and across shifts.
  • Provide technical oversight and ensure that troubleshooting/problem resolution is done appropriately.
  • Own and develop fiscal reviews and budgeting processes for the reporting lab areas.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Set the strategic direction for testing, design, and development, with a focus on process improvement, operational efficiency, and high- quality delivery
  • Contribute to management of lab-wide processes.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications
  • MS or PhD, or relevant experience as a substitution
  • At least 3 years as a leader of other people leaders
  • 10+ years of related experience in a laboratory environment.
  • 5+ years of direct laboratory management experience.
  • Knowledge of standard lab procedures and instrumentation.
  • Able to work and lead in a high-volume laboratory environment with strong organizational skills.
  • Consistent attention to detail and strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Computer skills with laboratory LIMS and instrumentation software.
  • Detailed chemistry instrumentation and method knowledge including analytical experience with HPLC, TLC, GCMS, GC, ICP, ICP-MS, LCMS and other related instrumentation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced degree in a directly related science field or in business.
  • Prior training or certification in lean six sigma, quality by design, kata or similar programs
  • Knowledge of EPA, Standard Methods, USP, and AOAC methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Certification Standards,
  • Knowledge of dietary supplement testing,
  • Experience in fiscal management.
