Job description

Duties Description Under the direction of a higher-level supervisor, his Park Supervisor 1 will be assigned to one of Jones Beach State Park's four operational areas: West End, West Bathhouse, Central Mall and the East End. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist the area manager with the supervision of staff; schedule, train, equip, assign, and work alongside staff to accomplish a variable list of routine and special projects on a daily basis. Coordinate the planning, preparation, and operation of special events.

Complete regular formal and informal inspections of the facility, complete and submit work orders, and coordinate with park maintenance staff to repair deficiencies in a timely manner. Work closely with park staff, concession management, police, fire, and ambulance services to ensure prompt and effective responses to emergencies. Promptly notify Park Management of any incidents, and complete required incident reports.

Identify the need for materials, equipment, or services; and with the approval of Park Management follow proper procurement procedures to obtain these items or services. Must be able to acquire valid quotes, follow all agency guidelines, and complete required purchasing paperwork. Have a working knowledge of the equipment.

Inspect equipment, plan preventative maintenance schedules, and coordinate with service and repair mechanics to effect timely repairs. Actively and effectively inspect and monitor concession operations under your supervision to ensure established park standards are being met. Assist the area manager with staff development, mandatory training, affirmative action.

Assist with directing the operations of a number of revenue producing locations & special recreational programs; train and deploy staff; Identify problems and initiate corrective action as needed. Initiate, monitor, and review written communications for compliance, accuracy, timeliness, and conciseness.

Ex. schedules, revenue reports, etc. Implement the training of subordinate staff in the standard procedures governing park and maintenance operations, equipment operation, and safety.

Regularly follows up with staff to ensure that standard procedures are adhered to, and that work proceeds in a safe and efficient fashion. Function as the Duty Officer in the absence of higher-level supervision including: - Coordination of activities of the operational staff of all operational area with park wide supervision. - Respond to emergencies which occur throughout the facility and coordination with police, emergency personnel, etc.

- Assist in coordination of park staff with special events including Jones Beach Theater concert parking, beach front band shell activities, and other special events as needed. Minimum Qualifications For Permanent Competitive Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on an appropriate active Civil Service eligible list or eligible for transfer, reassignment, or reinstatement in accordance with Civil Service Law. For Permanent Non-Competitive *NY HELPS Appointment: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).** To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for this position

The qualifications are: Either 1. three years of experience in the construction, operation, or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus;* one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level; Or 2. an associate's or higher-level degree or 60 college semester credit hours AND one year of supervisory experience in the construction, operation or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus.* *a park, recreational facility, or campus is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: athletic fields, skating rink, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming

Additional Comments SALARY INFROMATION: The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA SG-11 ($47,695) with the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($58,447) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).

OPERATING NEEDS: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. Ability to work variable shifts including but not limited to: day and night on a regular basis as needed; variable pass days including split pass days; overtime as required. The CSC has covered-in employees who were appointed via NY HELPS on a permanent or contingent permanent basis between June 26, 2024 and June 11, 2025.
