The Controls Engineer will program and complete design work for mobile equipment that includes electrical device/component selection, development of control loop functional scripts, schematics, panel layouts and wiring diagrams, detailed BOM and Operator and User Manuals. The Controls Engineer will collaborate with other SpecSys engineers and manufacturing along with project managers to ensure the On Time - On Budget - Done Right - Done-Safely aspects of the project assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Verify the design meets performance and configuration specifications
  • Develop and update project timelines, including periodic reviews
  • Develop system concepts to meet project function
  • Perform engineering calculations to verify compliance with design requirements
  • Provide technical data to the client, designers, and drafters
  • Develop electronic control systems to meet customer expectations and specifications
  • Provide programming for controls, including PLC's and HMI/GUI components
  • Provide analysis to verify system function, such as FMEA, design verification and validation
  • Prepare system operation documents for the customer
  • Prepare and present project design review booklets to the customer
  • Prepare system schematics for AC /DC electrical circuits in single- and/or three- phase environments
  • Create and validate harness designs and drawings to support system integration and manufacturing
  • Specify materials to be used in design
  • Specify and source purchase components to be used
  • Provide direction and support to mechanical engineering for system integration
  • Generate and reviewBill of Materials for completeness
  • Provide instructions and support to electrical technicians for system builds
  • Update and track action items, including Engineering Change Orders
  • Support development of other systems and components, hydraulics, powertrain, engine, pneumatics
JOB REQUIREMENTS/STANDARDS:
  • Knowledgeable with CodeSys (or C, C++, VBA) and other mobile equipment program language
  • Experience with SAE J1939 and CANopen
  • Capable to work on CAD packages
  • Possess strong mechanical, controls and electronics aptitude
  • Electrical systems design experience
  • Experienced in automotive or mobile equipment electrical design or mobile equipment controls
  • Experienced in PLC programming
  • Experienced in mobile electrical and hybrid power systems
  • Hydraulic system control experience
  • Experienced in system design and development
  • Ability to interact at a professional level with Manufacturing Operations, Sales, Clients, and Quality is a vital aspect of this job function
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team is essential
  • All work will be consistent with internal or customer specified requirements, and includes the ability to understand and apply local, national, and international codes and to comply with such as deemed necessary
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology disciplines
  • 4+ years of controls and electrical experience
  • OR Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be acceptable.
