Electrical Controls Engineer (12-Month Contract)

Location: Chanhassen, MN
Department: Project Engineering
Pay Rate: Starting at $42 per hour (DOE)

Job Summary

The Electrical Controls Engineer will support the design and development of chemical and specialty gas management equipment solutions. This role will initially focus on electrical design while providing opportunities to learn and implement software and control systems for distribution, cleaning, and blending equipment.

The engineer will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, controls, and manufacturing teams to enhance electro-mechanical equipment used in semiconductor and other industrial applications. This position offers mentorship and training for engineers interested in expanding their expertise in controls systems, PLC programming, and automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical schematics and engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Review, edit, and provide feedback on electrical designs and documentation.
  • Assist with the design, customization, and implementation of software for electro-mechanical control systems.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including:
    • Functional Specifications
    • I/O Matrices
    • Operating Procedures
    • Test Procedures
  • Support manufacturing and supply chain teams in developing processes, requirements, and procedures that align with quality, cost, and project objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
    • An Associate degree combined with 5+ years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, including the ability to create, read, modify, and redline electrical schematics.
  • Interest in and aptitude for learning PLC and HMI programming.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Ethernet networks
    • TCP/IP networking
    • Hardware troubleshooting
  • Ability to travel locally up to 15%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Exposure to SCADA platforms.
  • Experience with PLC programming software.
  • Exposure to HMI development tools.
  • Basic programming experience with VB.NET, C#, or similar languages.
  • Interest in industrial automation, controls engineering, and manufacturing systems.

Experience Guidelines

  • 0-2 Years: Entry-level applicants with strong AutoCAD skills, relevant education, and an interest in controls engineering are encouraged to apply.
  • 3-5 Years: Experience designing electrical schematics and supporting industrial automation or manufacturing systems preferred.
  • 5+ Years: Strong background in electrical controls, industrial automation, PLCs, HMIs, and manufacturing support environments preferred.
