Job description

Job Title

The person in this position will provide instrumentation and control engineering as a member of multidisciplinary teams working on projects for industrial processing facilities, fuels facilities, power plants, and mining facilities. Work will involve integrating process, mechanical, electrical, and control requirements into comprehensive systems. Responsibilities include design and analysis, preparation of plans and specifications, conceptual studies, field installation, and cost estimating.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical knowledge: Detailed design work will include developing process and instrumentation diagrams, control valve sizing, instrument selection, instrument data sheets, instrument installation details, logic descriptions, logic diagrams, control system integration (either distributed control systems or programmable logic controllers), and schematic and wiring diagrams. Candidates should have a working knowledge of preparation all of these deliverables.
  • Staff development: Support the growth and development of team members.
  • Collaboration: Build and sustain strong relationships with clients and internal teams. Collaborate across disciplines to align technical approaches with client goals while contributing to a positive, inclusive team culture.

About the Opportunity

  • Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Minneapolis, Duluth, Hibbing, Bismarck, Salt Lake City or Fort Collins offices.
  • Travel expectation: up to 10–15 percent domestic fieldwork.
  • Work environment: ability to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Required Core Competencies

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering with academic coursework focused on process control systems
  • Experience: 5 or more years of related work experience at a consulting engineering or industrial organization working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • Driver's license: Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $90,000–$115,000 per year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Barr has a "no retained earnings" model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP.
