Pharmacy Technician Trainee

This position is a great opportunity that leads to a career! It is an apprenticeship program for our pharmacy team, which provides a pathway for those interested in becoming technicians. We offer on-the-job training and will cover the costs of the technician-trainee license, national board exam, and pharmacy technician license upon completion of the training.

Wage $13.63-$15.14 per hour

Job Summary:

Pharmacy Technician Trainees assist the pharmacist in pharmacy operations and provide customer service while complying with federal and state laws.

Essential Functions:
  • Pharmacy Technician Trainees fill prescriptions accurately, including retrieving products and labeling containers.
  • Respond to customer, physician, and vendor inquiries, deferring to the pharmacist as needed.
  • Assist with monthly CII audits and maintain records for controlled substances.
  • Understand billing and dispensing procedures under CMS DMEPOS guidelines.
  • Stock inventory and manage product orders.
  • Maintains all state and federal record keeping for controlled substances.
Essential Functions Under Certain Circumstances:
  • Pharmacy Technician Trainees accept the written prescription or refill information from customers; confirms completeness of patient record and requests missing information as appropriate, and retrieves the customer's pharmacy record(s) for verification.
  • Accesses the pharmacy computer to obtain complete patient record (on both cash and third-party prescriptions) and verifies third party plan parameters.
  • Orders product from preferred wholesale entity first, then other appropriate source as necessary or warranted.
  • Stocks pharmacy product orders to specific bay locations.
  • Maintains inventory levels to company goals, rotates stock, and utilizes RX return process.
  • Executes daily third-party reports
  • Pharmacy Technician Trainee cash register duties:
  • Process customer transactions accurately and handle various payment methods.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy area.
  • Adhere to dress code standards.
Other Functions:
  • Know the location of OTC merchandise and assist with inventory reports.
  • Attend company meetings for training and policy updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Environmental Factors:
  • Exposure to cleaning and compounding chemicals and bloodborne pathogens.
Job Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid Pharmacy Technician Trainee license in Utah.
  • Complete required training programs (e.g., HIPAA, FWA).
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work as part of a team.
