Controller Manager information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Controller Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Controller Manager, you need a robust background in accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance, usually supported by a CPA or relevant accounting degree. Expertise in ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with financial analysis software are common technical requirements. Strong leadership, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing teams and collaborating across departments. These skills ensure accurate financial oversight, strategic decision-making, and compliance within the organization.

How does a Controller Manager typically balance strategic oversight with day-to-day financial operations?

A Controller Manager is responsible for ensuring both the accuracy of daily financial transactions and the alignment of financial practices with the organization’s strategic goals. This often involves managing a team that handles routine accounting tasks while also participating in high-level planning, budgeting, and financial analysis. Regular collaboration with executive leadership is common, especially when setting financial targets or evaluating business performance. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to shift between hands-on problem-solving and big-picture financial management.

What is a Controller Manager?

A Controller Manager is a senior-level professional responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of an organization, including the production of financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and implementation of controls to mitigate risk. They ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies, and may also be involved in budgeting, forecasting, and supporting audits. Controller Managers typically supervise a team of accountants and work closely with upper management to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making.

Job description

Outsourced Controller Manager — Client Accounting Services
At Kirsch CPA Group, we help business owners think differently — and we apply that same mindset internally. As an employee-owned ESOP firm, our people are the key to our success. Unlike other firms, Kirsch CPA Group has a unique client service model in which no one person “owns” a client. Instead, our culture uses a teamwork approach to serve our clients. You will be part of a dynamic leadership team, bringing your unique set of talents and expertise to help our clients, our firm, and YOU succeed.
We’re growing — and we’re looking for an Outsourced Controller who thrives on solving complex business challenges, loves working directly with clients, and wants to help shape the future of privately held businesses.
Why Kirsch Stands Out: Employee Ownership
As a 100% employee-owned firm through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), you'll directly benefit from the firm's growth and success. We believe our people are the key to our success and are now empowered with a direct stake in the firm's growth. As an owner, you'll share in the prosperity you help create while preserving our client-focused culture.
What You’ll Do:
As a strategic Outsourced Controller, you’ll be a key part of our Business Advisory team. You’ll collaborate with clients to enhance financial performance, improve decision-making, and scale operations using data-driven insights.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Acting as a trusted advisor for multiple growing companies
  • Leading financial reporting, forecasting, and KPI development
  • Providing guidance on accounting processes, operational strategy, and transactions
  • Managing and mentoring team members to deliver high-quality client service
  • Delegating and reviewing work related to financial statements, tax returns, and advisory deliverables
  • Identifying challenges and delivering practical, forward-thinking solutions
  • Leading client engagements with ownership and accountability
  • Helping drive growth and profitability for both our clients and our firm
What You Bring:
  • CPA (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting or advisory experience — industry, public, or both
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment with shared client ownership
  • A passion for helping business owners grow and succeed
Benefits That Enrich Your Life
We prioritize your well-being with a substantial benefits package, making Kirsch a place to work for your whole career.
  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible schedules amp; hybrid work options
  • Work- Life Balance – 53 hour weeks for busy season (lowest in the area)
  • 8 paid holidays and a generous PTO policy
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance and disability coverage
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with employer contributions
  • 401(k) with monthly employer contributions
  • Annual salary reviews and performance-based bonuses
  • Team appreciation and professional development events
Ready to take the next step?
If you're a dynamic CPA who wants to make a real impact on privately held businesses — and you’re looking for a team that invests in your growth — apply today!
