Interim Controller (Contract)
Location: Vancouver, WA (Open to fully remote candidates with applicable experience)
Schedule: Monday-Friday
Duration: 3-6 Month Contract (Immediate Need)
Compensation: $40/hour to $50/hour
About Our Client
Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities they serve. They are experiencing growth and organizational change within their finance leadership team and are seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide stability, leadership, and operational oversight during this transition.
Position Overview
The Interim Controller will partner closely with the Chief Financial Officer to oversee the organization's accounting and financial operations. This individual will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting grant and contract compliance, and providing leadership to the accounting team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working in dynamic environments, leading teams, and contributing to organizations with a meaningful mission.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead monthly accounting activities, including the preparation and review of financial statements and reports.
  • Oversee payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activities, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage contract billing, grant accounting, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Supervise and support the accounting team, including mentoring and training staff.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Monitor financial performance and assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support contract and grant administration, including monitoring expenditures and revenue recognition.
  • Partner with department leaders on budgeting and financial management initiatives.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual audit processes.
  • Provide financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations to leadership.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Full-cycle accounting experience, including preparation of financial statements.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience leading or supervising accounting teams.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including functions such as Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
