Assistant Controller – FMS

Position Overview

The Assistant Controller is the leader responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, and internal control functions for FMS. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information across the organization. The Assistant Controller will lead the accounting team, drive process improvements, strengthen financial governance, and support strategic decision‐making as FMS continues to scale.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Manage external audits, tax filings, and relationships with auditors and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain a robust internal control environment and ensure adherence to corporate policies.

Accounting Operations

  • Lead all day‐to‐day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, revenue recognition, and fixed assets, consolidation.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure timely month‐end and year‐end close processes.
  • Oversee cash management, treasury functions, and banking relationships.

Financial Planning & Analysis Support

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership based on financial performance.
  • Support strategic initiatives, including pricing, cost optimization, and capital planning.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‐performing accounting team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate cross‐functionally with operations, HR, IT, and executive leadership.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Evaluate and enhance financial systems, tools, and automation opportunities.
  • Lead ERP optimization or implementation projects as needed.
  • Streamline workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience in FMS, financial services, SaaS, or multi‐entity environments preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage audits, complex accounting issues, and fast‐paced operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‐solving skills.
