Job description

Control Panel Technician
Department: Automation

Location: Cadiz, OH
Description
The Control Panel Technician plays a key role in the assembly, maintenance, repair, retrofit, and documentation of WaterForce automation controller assets. This position is primarily responsible for upgrading legacy control panels to current hardware and I/O standards while supporting new panel builds and maintaining accurate repair and retrofit records within the company's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
This role will also support troubleshooting and repair activities for industrial control panels, instrumentation, flowmeters, actuated valves, and other automation-related equipment. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and passionate about industrial automation, electrical systems, and equipment reliability.
This role is based out of our Triadelphia, WV shop location.
Responsibilities
Control Panel Assembly & Maintenance
  • Assemble, wire, test, repair, and refurbish WaterForce automation control panels and related equipment
  • Support new panel builds and modernization projects
  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and upgrades on automation control systems
  • Execute panel retrofits to migrate legacy assets to current hardware, communications, and design standards

Automation Asset Reliability
  • Perform functional testing and quality assurance inspections on automation assets before deployment and after field return
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to improve fleet reliability
  • Support standardization initiatives across the WaterForce automation fleet
  • Assist with development and maintenance of panel wiring standards and build procedures

Documentation & Asset Management
  • Maintain detailed repair histories, retrofit documentation, and work order records within the CMMS platform
  • Prepare reports related to asset repairs, fleet readiness, and modernization progress
  • Maintain accurate asset configuration records and testing documentation
  • Support inventory tracking, staging, and parts management activities

Instrumentation & Automation Support
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on flowmeters, instrumentation, actuated valves, and related automation equipment
  • Support Automation Engineering, Programming, and Field Operations teams with equipment upgrades and special projects
  • Assist with commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical support activities as needed

Continuous Improvement
  • Recommend improvements to equipment designs, maintenance practices, and fleet standardization efforts
  • Support implementation of best practices for automation asset management
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment

Requirements
Required:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, or control panels
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and record-keeping skills
  • Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar software
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred:
  • Prior Oil & Gas industry experience
  • Water Transfer industry experience
  • Experience with PLCs, industrial networking, and SCADA systems
  • Experience with industrial control panel assembly and wiring
  • Experience performing panel retrofits and component replacement projects
  • Experience working with flowmeters, pressure sensors, valve actuators, and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with UL508A panel construction practices
  • Knowledge of Siemens automation products, Ignition SCADA, cellular communications, and industrial automation equipment
